Rooting HTC Desire 2.2

Hi,

I have a Telstra HTC Desire running android 2.2 that I want to root, mainly so that I can use app2sd.

BUT, I have no idea on how to do this as most of the procedures I have come across don't seem quite right or confuse me?

Any help will be much appreciated.
