Boot freeze after switching USB mode

Hello all,

I've had a wee glitch when switching my USB mode on my VEGA running MoDaCo R8. The screen shows a single line - Starting Fastboot USB download protocol.

The machine is otherwise unresponsive. I would welcome any advice that can be given to enable me to re-install R8 with (hopefully) the minimum of disruption to my SD card (although that's a wish, not a requirement).
