Guest Moxo6 Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 I've been really put off reading books on my Vega, but the updated Kindle app is pretty good at making reading a little easier on the eyes. I'm really tempted to get a Kindle too, since I read quite a lot. Do I need a Kindle? (P.s I know I don't *need* a kindle or a Vega, it's an expression)
Guest Istu Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 I use a system of reading books that has full tactile feedback, infinite battery life, and fairly cheap too - called "paperbacks". Maybe I'm just a luddite? Lol

Guest warriorscot Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 I have a sony ereader and I still use it. I will go for big spells where I just use my vega mostly because its a convenience issue as it can connect to my calibre web server and download books straight away. The ereader doesn't do wireless and even if I had a kindle it only does kindle store not the calibre library. So I would get a cheap one as long as its under £100 go for it spending any more doesn't make sense but at that price point you get the most function for the least money. Lol I used to be a real book fan until I encountered the major downside. Storage, ran out of places to put them and got fed up of lugging the damn things around with me all day. I used to carry a couple of paperbacks with me everyday just so I could read during my commute and on breaks but its so much easier with the ereader.

(P.s I know I don't *need* a kindle or a Vega, it's an expression) For prolonged reading an ereader is better as it is less strain on the eyes. Much lighter to hold as well. But the big upside of ereader is that you can see it in sunshine! Try reading the highly reflective Vega screen in the garden. Vega is good for night time though as ereaders don't have backlights and unless you have a lot of light or a clip on light then they are quite hard to read. I have Sony 350 and the cover with built in light and that is good combo and I like the 5" form factor. I think Kindle (esp new £89 Kindle) has slightly more contrasty screen and new 6" one does away with the silly keyboard. Upside of Sony is the ability to download ebooks for free from library (altthough I realise that you could convert via Calibre to use a Kindle). Bottom line - ereader for 'serious' reading (£89 for Kindle is almost throwaway money), Vega for occassional reading but for all the other fab things you can do with it despite some of its shortcomings
Guest Plunger Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I have the Kindle App on my Vega, and it works well and I have a few eBooks on my Amazon accountl. However, I only have a Sony eReader and so I use Aldiko Book reader on the Vega as well. This can cope with Adobe DRM settings, so I can share my eBooks on the eReader with the Vega via the Vega USB port. This means I only have to take the Vega when travelling.
