Guest rockstarszzzz Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Hey all! Everyone of us uses certain set of apps and has certain usage pattern. Doesn't matter what ROM I flash on your Blade, you would want to use it same way as you've used last week and the week before. So idea here is, to choose ONLY one option - that indicates the ROM that you've tried and you've liked to your heart's pleasure. The reason you could have liked the ROM could be any: You like the Dev, You like the updates, You like the looks, You like features, Your gf forces you to use it. However, at the end of the day, the ROM you love - how did it do with battery? Please choose your fav ROM and then if it's battery life made you happy or unhappy. This poll does not intend to compare any ROMs or DEVS. The sole idea is: End user's usage is constant and similar. So he will be best judge for what suits his needs. Obviously we might see a trend if most of us the smartphone in similar fashion. In realistic situation our usages shouldn't differ much if all we do is use a low end smart phone as a low end smart phone. Try to avoid your answers based on 'tricks' that you performed to elongate battery. However if you do base you answer on that 'trick' please share with us!! PS: If you don't like the idea of this poll or the poll itself - no one will force you to vote. Again, no one is asking you to express your biased unwanted opinion in that case either. Be nice, be good! I don't get paid by any of the devs or any forums to make this poll or be here! If you don't like this thread, there are plenty more around, browse those (please!)
Guest dirlan2001 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Good idea. Should result in an clean overview of the different ROM in use. However, I guess it just depends on the 'upgrading-fever' that catches most of the users in here. When unhappy with a ROM, they don't turn back to the 'better' (?) release, just moan and wait for the next release.... and keep moaning for more releases ... As I said already in another thread : if you pay peanuts, expect peanut-time ... :D
Guest fox2000 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) I've been pretty happy with the most popular Froyo ROMs (FLB, JJ, SS...) and of course with GSF. I've been pretty unhappy with CM7 & MMHMP. Edited October 31, 2011 by fox2000
Guest brickornot Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 why there is no option for multiselect ? for example i had cm7 - unhappy and later gsf - happy and now moldovian - happy.
Guest rockstarszzzz Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 why there is no option for multiselect ? for example i had cm7 - unhappy and later gsf - happy and now moldovian - happy. Because then there will be too many votes from people who can't decide at all! Hence, pick the ROM that you like for xyz reason and then narrow down on battery. Out of CM7, GSF and MMH - you must be able to say 1 of them is your favourite! They are 3 girls you have crush on, but which one will be good enough to be your gf ;)
Guest t0mm13b Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) Well I am not voting this because in all fairness this poll seems to scatty for the simple reason: Froyo, Stock, CM7 prior to nightly 197 (inclusive) was on 2.6.32 kernel, which is used in what how many ROMs CM7 after nightly 197 made the switch to a rather pseudo kernel 2.6.35-7 (really .32 with bits of .35 thrown in for good measure). Stacking that up against the likes of those that were spun off the leaked kernel that came out in the summer makes this a bad poll and does not do any justice. (GSF, Blue Ginger, CAE, to name but a few) It is however, my belief, that Zte are deliberately with-holding the real genuine source to the leaked kernel (read: not psuedo .35 that came out earlier on which caused uproar recently with SeanJacko), it is that leaked kernel source is the key to delivering good performance - why? Since the roms that came out were spun off the leaked kernel - GSF, Blue Ginger etc, users were high fiving it for performance, especially battery performance. And come to think of it, the flavour of the ROM affects it too, GSF, Blue Ginger, there was another one (they were all based of the stock aosp from CAF or google's AOSP) which is another factor. I can understand you trying to measure and gauge this but this poll is really not warranted, as to each and their own, some use wifi, some use 3g etc! :) At the end of the day, you cannot really pin-point it and say on a general basis, they're happy/unhappy with battery performance, as each and their own have their own varying usages which varies. Just my 2cents :) Edited October 31, 2011 by t0mm13b

Just my 2cents :) This is the exact reason I've mentioned that this isn't a poll to measure Dev v/s Dev or ROM v/s ROM. Say for example me: I have specific usage pattern with my phone. No matter what ROM I use, I will never sync my shopping list, but will always sync 4 email accounts - just one example. So if you as a user were to compare how all those ROMs hold up to your usage patterns, you could vote. We are not looking into what kernel, what tweaks etc. the devs might apply in various ROMs. Irrespective of that each user can vote on what has been good enough for their usage. I know our personal usages are different but then so are each ROMs. I would be surprised to see maximum votes saying 'Stock - happy' because for the fact we know hardly anyone uses stock. In general this is based on an assumption that - we own a smart phone (although low end) and hence most voters won't be using their phone for just calls and texts. I do know people personally who tend to go on airplane mode over night but use 3G rest of the time. Put his vote against someone who only uses 2G all the time = nullification.

Well for the devs, there'd be no ROMs so what you've put together as a poll is contradicting what you say, "It's not a measure of Dev v/s Dev nor ROM v/s ROM", but in fact it is! To each and to their own, this poll cannot be generalized as each one has different usages and trying to pin that down into either the unhappy or happy camp is not going to work either as the on-off chance that the previous experiences of a previous ROM used, real life situations etc the chance of them remembering and then try to compare with the latest ROM currently running... The crucial point that you're missing in all of this is kernel 2.6.32 was fairly mature by then when that pseudo .35 kernel came out and even the leaked kernel which had a significant impact in which GSF/Blue Ginger and other spin-offs were high-fiving it as I say. Irrespective of the ROM or Dev, it is the kernel in itself that's what is the point am making! Also, battery life to be expected on a smartphone would be on average to last a day. :) :) Edited October 31, 2011 by t0mm13b
Guest ThrashMan Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Whilst you may point out that people, like me, that think this poll is pointless and stupid do not need to vote or take any notice of it.....some more susceptible users may well attempt to believe the meaningless conclusions of such a "poll".
Guest unrandomsam Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I have no real issues with zte s stock 2.6.35/2.3.5 it lasts two days easily. i don't have loads of eyecandy (stock weather widget one hour refresh). light browsing / tapatalk / doodle jump / bit of gps. full gen3. the sources we have should be enough (Seems ZTE has done a better job than the community over the same time period). I would prefer the best sources but I would take the binary until such time as the source performs at least as well. Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using Tapatalk
Guest targetbsp Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I've used Stock, MCR12, Jellyfish, FLB, Swedish Spring, GSF, CM7. With the exception of specific battery draining bugs in certain older nightlies of CM7, all of them have had the same battery life.
Guest popoyaya Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 So many flaws with this poll. e.g. Why would someone stick with a rom they're unhappy with? You'll notice in the results that every single rom is reporting more happy users than unhappy.

Remember - you are polling for battery life. You might have battery life of 10 days on stock rom, but you might want features and hence you will move to CM7. See the point?
