Guest tim_n Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Hi - I've just ordered a vega for the very reasonable price of £130 from ebay to try and upgrade to 3.2 honeycomb. It's in the post. My main machine is a mac, and previous flashing for motherboards etc I've only ever attempted on windows machines. My wife has a windows 7 laptop which I hope'll be suitable. Is there any clean cut instructions for installs onto virgin machines? I've seen plenty of advice about upgrading from previous releases of the project and I've read a beginners guide which warns at the top that it's probably out of date. Whilst I've a degree in computing, I'm a bit rusty having left the industry about 6-7 years ago. The guide I read was: http://android.modaco.com/topic/340184-beginnersnon-techie-guide-to-installing-vegacomb/ Are these still the best tools or is there anything on the guide I should be aware of - I don't particularly want my vegacomb experience to involve a bricking on the first attempt. Cheers in advance - having watched the videos on the 3.2 release I'm in awe in how much dedicated work has gone into this project. Edited November 1, 2011 by tim_n

My advice would be... * print out the instructions * read the whole thing carefully first * use modded stock version 2 * tick/cross out each section as you complete them * be patient on the flashing / rebooting, it seems like its taking ages and its easy to start worrying! * have the micro SD card pre-loaded with the Vegacomb 9n and update3n .zip's before you start At the end of the instructions where you have just used CWM to flash the Vegacomb ROM, it tells you to use CWM to reboot. Don't. Use the same button presses to install the update3n.zip from SD card first. Once that's complete - THEN use CWM to reboot. We had no problems, but we really took our time and did things slowly and very carefully B)

I'm supposed to be doing some woodwork to encase some 1,000ltr water containers so they don't get all algaefied... if the Vega arrives today/tomorrow, that may not happen :) Thanks for the extended info - I'm hoping it still comes with the 4GB microSD card! Guest Turvy Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Hi tim_n, I have been trying to do that install for the last couple of days, with an Advent i swapped for a Laptop.. Unfortunately, I get stuck at "Installing Moddedstock:" I get an Error saying "USB Device notFound press enter to continue" Also, it Does Detect "Nvidia Boot device" When Booting into Recovery Mode, i.e. I don't get the "Device Driver Software was not successfully Installed" for the APX device.. As in this Picture I haven't got a solution to this problem, but i have a feeling it may be to do with the USB cable, as i never received the original. I have since bought a new one, and i still get the same problem.:( Anyway, This is more of a "Heads Up", To let you know, If you don't have the original cables that came with it, you MIGHT not be able to Install it. I can't seem to find a replacement original cable anywhere, and as i said, a purchased new one, doesn't work either (I have tried three altogether). To say i'm disappointed is a massive understatement.. I hope you don't have these problems, but if you do, it may be the cable.. (This might save you some time and Heartache, trying to find a solution) Edited November 3, 2011 by Turvy

Did you switch on the debug mode on the USB? Similarly putting it into the recovery mode (holding down the back button for 2secs, holding down the power and back for 2 secs and back for 2 secs) didn't make the device light up at all - as far as I could see you got the APX warning showing the device was successfully connected and that was it. It may be worth starting from the top - I've just followed the steps from top to bottom with no probs at all except the first time I tried to install the whole thing crashed including the laptop whilst halfway through installing the moddedstock. I just started again and everything seemed to be sorted (including the Nvidia driver). So I just went straight for installing the modded stock again (make sure you run as admin)
Guest Anth79 Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Hey guys im having probs getting on the android forum, when i click on the android forum tab at the top it keeps taking me to android news. I thought the forum might of been down but i got a email notification from this thread.
Guest Turvy Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 1 .Did you read the install guide I linked to at the top? the APX driver warning is normal and part of the install. Yeah, i think i may be doing this part wrong, sometimes it doesn't do anything, and the computer detects it, sometimes the android logo appears, then dissapears.. It may be worth starting from the top - I've just followed the steps from top to bottom with no probs at all except the first time I tried to install the whole thing crashed including the laptop whilst halfway through installing the moddedstock. Tempted to give up, but i really don't want to, as this tablet is useless without a decent OS on it. It's just been sitting in a corner since the last time i tried to install honeycomb on it. Glad to hear you got sorted anyway... :)
Guest richardmlea Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) I find my vega wont go into NVflash recovery mode when its plugged into the usb. If I try to get into recovery (back-power button thing) when its plugged into the usb, the PC ping's like its found a device(no warning dialog so no driver problem) but NVflash fails to detect the device(. For it to work the usb needs to be unplugged when I do the back-power button thing, I then plug in the usb and NVflash works. Try it the way I do it. Edited November 5, 2011 by richardmlea
Guest Turvy Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Will try that and let you know how i get on. Thanks richardmlea. Edited November 7, 2011 by Turvy
