Guest Oldbarzo Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Hi This would appear to be a Viewsonic 10s which is the same as the Advent Vega in composition. As far as Honeycomb 3.2. Is concerned, this is a rip-off of Vegacomb 3.2 by the Devs from Tabletroms (Google this for info). Hope this info helps. Stransky

The tablet I am scoping has full HDMI. Also a Viewsonic 10s has different face/buttons ,plugs and ports. If I am wrong, I must be looking at different tablet. Please help, I would like a real advent vegra for my b-day. Respects. -Ryan
Guest IanTurner Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Hmmm wonder if they're refurbs given that they're not available for sale outside the UK anyway and they seem to be selling them with Vegacomb installed so you never know what they might get upto
Guest richardmlea Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Hi Ryan, it looks like a vega and the specs are the same and the price looks ok (£205). I wonder if DSG know they are using the Advent Vega name, I think not. They probably just bought a load of them OEM of the manufacturer (shuttle) and are trading off the well known name of "Advent Vega". As it dosent have a hard home button they shouldnt be selling it with the market preloaded either, (A hard home button is a requirment by google for both the market and honeycomb). So it looks like they dont care about Trademarks or Copyright. Will They still be around in six months if you have to claim on your warranty, (I mean after DSG and Google have sued them in to oblivion)? Its not like a chinese manufactuer thats not worth the time to sue. Because they are in the Canada Google and DSG are likly to go after them. Before you buy check the company very well. Check the phone numbers work and are land lines, also check they answer the phone as Hi tech league not something else as this can tell you if it one guy in an office running several companies. Check google for company and customer reveiws and check how long they have been operating. If they have a shop or office check it on google earth or streetveiw to see if its real. Trust no one! :P Edited November 4, 2011 by richardmlea
Guest richardmlea Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Just had a quick look at the site. It is a one man operation but most importantly there is no business address. I would give it a WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE birth. They are an Ebay seller so you could check out there feedback and get them to sell it you through ebay then you will have protection through ebay. but i still wouldnt hold my breath if it you need to claim on the warranty. If it looks to good it usually is! Edited November 4, 2011 by richardmlea

The Viewsonic 10 s comes with HDMI, there is also a Viewsonic GTab which runs Win and Android so maybe that is the tab you found. As has been said in other posts I would be wary of this guy, you might get lucky, but then again you could end up with a turkey. Old adage "Buyer Beware". Stransky

Guest ID10T Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Well, I give up!! No Vega for me. Any suggestions for sumtin else. :( I'm so sad....
Guest richardmlea Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Well, I give up!! No Vega for me. Any suggestions for sumtin else. :( I'm so sad.... Unfortunately if it really has to be a Vega and not a Vega clone then you are out of luck as DSG only sell them in the UK. You could get someone you know and trust in the UK to buy it for you and post it to you but then you still have an issue with returning it for repair if it’s needed. Your other options are, Buying a Vega clone (like the one you are looking at) and risking maybe not being able to claim on the warranty. Buying a used Vega off eBay and not worrying about the warranty. Buy a more expensive tablet like the transformer or A500. Wait for more tablets to be released at similar/better spec than the Vega and a similar price point. If you really have to have one now maybe a used one off eBay for now and sell it on later. If you’re not going to be able to use the warranty then you may as well save some money and buy a used one.
Guest hitechleague Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Couldn't miss this one as the link posted here gave our store decent visitor boost :) I feel I need to clarify things here for you guys as the matter is concerning my business and products. However I won't be able to address every post above. I will answer main questions raised. Yes our Advent Vega is OEM tablet from China. We send them with no brand name markings on the device and they are packed in white plain boxes. We preinstall VegaComb on them and in doing so I strongly believe we help our customers. With factory Android 2.2 this tablet is no fun really. Now tell me please what is real Vega and what is Vega clone? I am always amazed when people start to make up stories of some sequencing of clones. Advent bought these tablets OEM just the same way as we do and put their name on them. We could make up names for these things and call them whatever we want just as well. No need to complicate things. Warranty claims are processed as they come but yes it takes some time to get your tablet fixed. Up to 3 months. We are lucky we only get very requests. I am talking about tablets in general as we haven't heard of any hardware issues with our Vegas yet. P.S. This is two man company. And yes checking our ebay score is a good idea because we've done pretty well on that. If you have any questions about our products please contact me (Dennis) at [email protected] or call my cell at +1 647 705 3250 (10am-10pm Pacific Time) I will send this device to USA no problem. Cheers!
Guest IanTurner Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) So that would be Vegacomb with the warning stating that if you've bought a device with it installed claiming to be running Honeycomb then you've been had removed ? A site which describes the device as an Advent Vega while the owner has just admitted it's nothing of the sort and is just the generic base unit with non Advent software running on it ? Without any warnings about the risk of running the audio volume at 100% ? Or list of all the known faults in the installed OS ? Let alone mention the limited functionality of the Android market on the device ? Someone contact the Canadian Trading standards office to report this blatant case of fraud. Guest richardmlea Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 We preinstall VegaComb on them and in doing so I strongly believe we help our customers. With factory Android 2.2 this tablet is no fun really. You are using Vegacomb, not an official Honeycomb version; this should be explained of your site and credit given to the devs of Vegacomb. At the moment you are trading of the hard work of others and not even giving the due credit to the people who have made it possible. How about a small donation to the team for everyone you sell? Seems fair to me. We could make up names for these things and call them whatever we want just as well. No need to complicate things. You can call it anything you like as long as it’s not trademarked or copywriten. You are using the name Advent Vega to advertise you product. Again trading off someone else’s intellectual property. As you probably know, if you had got them marked and boxed as Advent Vega's you would have produced counterfeit goods and Canadian trading standards would have no choice other than to destroy them. You haven’t produced counterfeit goods but using the Vega Name is naughty. Point out in you advertisement that it’s not an advent Vega but exactly the same, and then you’re legal. Why try to deceive people (even if that was not your intention its you are doing).

The product page definitely needs some editing and I will make sure it is done promptly.
Guest ursulavasey Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 In your spec sheet, you state that the tablet has "Android 2.2 (upgrade to 3.2 available)" but the picture has Vegacomb which is an unofficial version of 3.2. There is no official version of 3.2 for the Vega, so that in itself is misrepresentation. If you are selling the Vega with Vegacomb pre-installed, then I question the legality of such a sale. Here in the UK, they cannot be purchased like this, other than buying used units from Ebay and similar websites. There are various other problems with the page, but it would need to be more closely examined to see where you are from a legal standpoint.
Guest Oldbarzo Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Hi There is also the fact that the screenshot of the Tablet shows the Viewsonic Birds logo, which I'm sure Viewsonic will not approve of. Stransky
