Ripping DVD's for the Vega - Output formats

Hi All,

I've searched the forums but cant find anything to help with a video playback issue I'm having...

I'm running MoDaCo R8 and cant get any video files to play I've tried multiple file formats MP4 MKV AVI WMV 3GP and numerous plays

- Default Player (Movies)

- MX Video Player

- QQ Player

- RockPlayer Lite

all get the same results "Unable to open file"

I can record video via camera and watch that file back without issue so I confident its just something I'm getting wrong in the ripping/encoding process.

Can any one recommend a program for ripping etc so far I've tried Handbrake, GogotoDVD, IMTOO, Magic dvd ripper but cant get anything to work.

Any help you guys can throw my way is greatly appreciated, i managed to get from stock ROM to R8 with just reading through forum so big thanks to all for answering others people question which i then also read through.

Use Handbrake with the profile attached to the first post in this thread. Note that's set for 16:9 so

a 2.35:1 will look squeezed if you don't adjust the settings

Thanks Ian, I've followed that post even used the same file "Big Buck Bunny" and still had the same problem, I have how found that if i attempt to watch the mp4 back on my pc its absolute tosh, can hardly make out picture and sound is all over the place.. could this be a problem with my pc as opposed to a problem with the vega, was thinking of flash with stock image again and seeing if problem exists outside of the R8 ROM. Like I said in first post I'm sure this isn't a general problem with the ROM as i seem to be the only one having it.

Again any advise greatly recieved...

Is it just this file and what device is it from?

No its any file and I only have my Vega and my PC to test anything on, I've tried a load of other file formats but cant get anything to work.

my first reply wasn't entirely accurate either I downloaded the big buck bunny short film that was in the post you mentioned, used the handbrake profile in that post and ripped the file.

resulting output file plays for 3 seconds file then stops and hangs skips itself for occasionally but never plays for more that 2-3 seconds...I'm starting to think its more a problem with the files I'm making than the Vega. Cant seem to find a file to download that should just play is there any trailer site etc someone can point me too that should just play on the vega?

Thanks in advance again...

What Software are you using to rip the DVDs with?

Try ripping another and then play it on your pc before you try moving it to the vega. If Its not working try another program to rip the dvd with or try installing the one you have again.

Download and install Sisoft Sandra (free) on your PC. Start sandra and run analysis and advise. It will Take a while to complete (maybe and hour if your pc is slow) but it will give you a lot of useful info about you pc and tell you if you are missing drivers or required updates. Its a very useful tool that I have used for about 10 years.

a trailer site would just use flash or divx like youtube or megavideo. Try one of them.

Look at Quick silver screen (the forum is best not the main site) for various downloadable files of various formats.

I'm a big fan of Freemake video converter. Easy, maybe not the fastest but gets results all the time.

Personally I just convert DVDs to MPEGs using MPEGStreamclip, that way it only takes about three minutes per DVD and nothing is lost

The only downside to this is that the files are the size of the DVD (usually 4.7gb / 8.5 gb)

But I'd definitely reccoment MX Video player for playback , it's by far the best one I've used

Also, it might be worth making a Nandroid of what you have now and then upgrading to Vegacomb 3.2 r9 and seeing what that's like

Don't think that will help the OP as it sounds like their problems are on their pc given that the black bunny video comes up mangled.

Wonder if they have RAM issues given the video conversion probably uses a fair amount though that might be clutching at straws.
