Guest Shaz45 Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Hi Folks - Sorry that my first post is a plea for help but I think I just killed my phone (well beyond my ability to fix it anyway!) I got a Liquid E from the Expansys £80 deal of a week or so ago and have been dabbling in these forums trying to educate myself on custom roms. Out of the box it came with the standard Android 2.1and last night I installed Malez recovery and did a Nandroid backup to get the hang of how that all works. Today, I thought that I'd better do the official Acer 2.2 update to get my radio baseband (is that the right terminology?) up to date before having a play with LiquidNext. I DLed the 4.002.14.EMEA.GEN1_A22F update from Acer UK and tried installing it via my Win7 netbook. The driver and EEU updater installed and ran OK but the installer crashed out after approx 15 Mins (I believe the last screen message was that the system erase had completed OK). It gave me instructions to retry (pull battery, restart with Vol+ and camera keys - retry update) but it crapped out at the same point. I was able to pull the battery for 10secs and restart in recovery mode - thank god for Malez - but now when I tried to restore my nandroid backup, its just sitting there doing row, after row, after row of dots (30 mins in and still going). What do I try next? Please, please tell me I've not irreperably borked the phone. Its still shiny, shiny new and I really like it and I can't believe that I've broken it using an Acer installer! Does anyone know if the Expansys handsets were factory refurbs which might have had a problem? Mine was sealed on arrival so I suspect not but if I go back to Expansys I suspect they will say loading Malez has voided my warranty anyway. Any help very, very gratefully received.... :(Shaz45 :(

Don't go back to Expansys, your warranty is gone if Acer see Malez recovery. Edited November 8, 2011 by Pi3rluigi

Don't go back to Expansys, your warranty is gone if Acer see Malez recovery. HI there - Apart from my netbook (Win 7) I'm running a Snow Leo hackintosh - can I do the update under OSX? Just an update fwiw - After 1hr 30 mins watching dots filling my screen, I pulled the battery and restarted - I can still get into Malez and If I reboot from Malez I have 2.1 back (just called and texted to confirm its working) !!! Thank goodness - but what way should I do the upgrade to 2.2 to move on to LN or MIUI? I'm guessing I should find an old XP box ( to be sure - to be sure) but again I'm a bit confused. I read the 4.1 instructions you kindly linked me to, but the ZIP file I DL'd from the Acer website only contains an MSI installer file which is run automatically after the liquid tools installer loads the USB drivers. And searching my HDD fails to find any .exe's or .bins in the C:\Program Files\Acer\ folders that have been created. Where do I find the files I need even if I wanted to risk running them in XP Compatability / Admin mode? Thanks Shaz45

Thanks Shaz45 Ok don't move and read carefully :D: you can upgrade to Froyo just running the .exe file you have dowloaded from Acer website,in Win7. You need to run it as administrator and in compatibility mode with Xp (maybe my English isn't correct); search with Google how to do that. For all the info refer here ;just one suggestion: go slowly!

Pi3rluigi Thanks once again. I've been lucky. I just successfully updated to Froyo using an old WinXP box I had in the garage. Completed successfully and playing with the new style interface now - <Not great is it> Frighteningly, when I started the update the Acer installer reckoned I'd already updated to 4.002.14 while "about device" was assuring me I was only on 2.1r1 so the phone must have been in a right freakin' mess. I guess I was very lucky it was still booting at all! But the installer let me re-apply the update anyway and as I said, it all went smoothly and restarted without issues. Anyhow - One lesson learnt without a major disaster - but I promise to be more careful next update! Thanks again for your willingness to step in and point me to the right places. Just confirms that the Acer "community" is alive and kicking on Modaco. Cheers.
Guest Shaz45 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Pi3rluigi One more question (if I can) then I'll leave you alone for a while... I take it the official update has overwritten Malez. When I restart into recovery today I'm getting a little android holding a triangle with an exclamation mark. If I leave it for 2-3 mins it boots to Acer Recovery 3.c but an I right in assuming that between the official update and Malez I now have a recovery partition which is not quite one or the other? I'll maybe reflash Malez tonight but would welcome your reassurance I'm not about to (as we say here in Ireland) "Bollix the whole bl**dy thing". Thanks
