Guest No Expert Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Hi there, I'm looking into buying my first Windows Phone. I've had experience with Android devices and many different custom ROMs. Does a Windows Phone offer the same level of customisation? i.e. are there ROMs out there any custom ROMs from developers similar to CyanogenMod for Android or do we just rely on Microsoft for software updates? Many thanks
Guest awarner Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 There are no real custom ROMs as such but you can unlock to run homebrew apps. ROM-wise where the OS is so smooth and fast custom ROMs to improve are not really needed. Its a pleasure to use.
Guest No Expert Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Many thanks for your reply. What about things like adblockers or the ability to edit the hosts file?
Guest awarner Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Unless there is something on the homebrew scene there is nothing you can do on that side of things. It's a more controlled enviroment adverts are generally for free aps and so it's the authors way of reclaiming costs, as it's free it's not much to ask. There is not much that can be customised visually, the whole design of the phone is to get in do what you need to do and carry on with your life. The social aspect that inbuilt into the OS saves a lot of time plus no need to install third party apps just to get the phone in a usable state as such.
Guest No Expert Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 OK, many thanks for your help.
