hello,

I want to know if there is any risk to flash the 2.3.6 update that is available here on a canadien acer liquid MT because.. this update is not available for my region (canada)...

Does the bootloader is unlocked by default? or do I need to unlock it before flashing the update....

I simply want to update the phone.... nothing more...

oh! and I'm still on 2.2 froyo (never have done any update on it...)

thanks!

There is no risk to flashing it. I have on my phone and I am from Thunder Bay, ON and have a Tbaytel/Rogers phone and I am running 2.3.6 and Gingerouney and it is working perfectly. A perk of getting off the Rogers ROM is that the phone is unlocked as well. As well you can always revert back to the Rogers ROM by simply flashing the BIN found on the Canadian website.

thanks for your answer, which method did you use? "acer_u" or acer download tool?

Do I need to backup things before the update or everything will stay on it (like contact and apps)?

For 2.3.6 toss it on your SD card.

If however you need to go back to the default rogers rom, you'll have to use the Acer download tool.

Just updating the firmware, all your settings, contacts and apps should remain.

You can go back to 2.2 from 2.3 I have done it. Just flash the 2.2 bin and it will work. Did it when I was trying out a Gingerbread Rom and went back to an older T&L from 2.2.
