Patch to change 'cross-eyed' home screen icon spacing and folder icon?

I believe I'm not the only one who thinks the stock launcher icon margins are too far from the edges, giving a 'cross-eyed' look. I find the new design much uglier than Gingerbread.

Those round 'folders' (weird right) look as old fashioned as a rotary dial phone.

As a designer I know a patch for the first but preferably both things would make the launcher much prettier. Any takers?

How about using go launcher or launcher pro? Not sure how well these will work with ICS though. GO sms didn't work too well

Well i am getting used to the new look. But I'd like to keep the stock launcher, given all its enhancements n that.

An icon spacing tweak in Paul's kitchen shouldn't be too tricky?
