Turning slightly faulty San Francisco into a 'Hackintouch'

My San Francisco has finally given up on being a phone.

It will no longer receive any telecoms signals ie it does not make or receive sms or calls or data.

Wifi works though i think.

Anyway my question is, i was playing with a friends ipod touch, which got me thinking about trying to breath some new life into the old girl, maybe get a massive microsd and use my blade as a kinda hackintouch :P

Do any ofyou guys have any suggestions as to possible new uses?

Or Does anyyone know how to create a really stripped out rom so i can get rid of unnecessary processes, thus extending my hackintouch's battery life.

Any suggestions, ideas or advice appreciated

Just do a quick Google for "Cm barebones" It will tell you all the apk's you need in a ROM and what they are for. If you don't want the phone functionalities I would assume it is safe to remove phone.apk too (or whatever it may be named)

One user a few months ago wished to turn his blade into an android powered mp3 player, stripping away all the networks and such. I am not too sure how he faired in that manner maybe you can find the post.

I am currently messing around with the Honeycomb port, seeing if that will be any good for my needs.

Did you try your SIM in another phone ? My experience says SIM's tend to have a much shorter life as phones....Unless you used the phone also as football, doorstopper or such

Install the Monte Ericsson rom, strip out all unnecessary apks from the system apps folder, install your music player of choice, say Uber Player and you have what you want, with Dolby sound.

Can't it be a GEN problem?

Have you tried to do an Upgrade to GEN2 or a Downgrade to GEN1?

As far as I understood (from the little I've learned):

These files (firmware) are the pillars of the"phone". And if they became corrupted you can have problems.

Whatever you do... please fill us in!

I am pretty sure i broke something, when i replaced the digitizer.

The 32gb micro sd is ordered.

Once it arrives i will start fiddling.

Anyone know why Songbird does not work on san frans?

Play.com aren't too bad if you're not after a real class 10

My 16GB PNY Class 10 from them lasted less than 3 months.

(Think I will go for only Samsung / Lexar / Other reasonable brands from now on too hard to find half decent stuff otherwise - Only time I have ever bought junk and it behaved like junk. - Got my money back at least though).

Anyway, if you're looking for a "light" ROM version why don't you do it yourself?

I picked up the "SS RLS5 UK themed" and removed all the things I consider trash and flashed it into the phone!

Airoplane mode works wonders.... And you can use Wifi in there without coming out of airoplane mode
