Guest onejay Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 i was thinking that unlocking it would fix it. do you think previous owner has tryed to put an incorrect unlock code in?

Guest onejay Posted November 26, 2011 Report Posted November 26, 2011 £90 i have opened a case and waiting for a response, if not ill havto unlock it. strange thing is the imei begins with an 8 and the imei is different on the box too just the last 4 digits dont match! very strange indeed. hes either blocked it or messed an unlock up. i wonder if he rewrote the imei or lost some important items from nvitems!

Thats really dodgy - I would probably try to get the seller charged with the IMEI offences stuff this like this is totally not on. (Ebay these days is just full of scammers all the legit sellers are on Amazon Marketplace as well so I try to avoid it).
Guest Atomix86 Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 If it's saying that even with an Orange SIM, are you sure it isn't a stolen product?
Guest D3abL3 Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 If it's saying that even with an Orange SIM, are you sure it isn't a stolen product? IMEI's not blacklisted.

Guest nicksoph Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 To begin with let me say that there are much better qualified peps here who can advise you on what Im going to suggest and I think it would be wise to hear from them before you do anything like what I am suggesting; First check that the mac addresses are similar for bluetooth and wifi (somewhere there is a thread which gives the details of how they are similar) and make a note of them. If they are still as they should be that might suggest that who ever may have hacked this has not followed the old set of unlocking instructions (which lost the mac numbers) but has tried to unlock it using some other method and having failed has been hacking the imei numbers. The Blade had the ability to have it's IMEI number over written and maybe the Skate does too, if it is also possible to overwrite the area of it's memory that deals with locking to a network and the Mac numbers for network and bluetooth then maybe a way to get it working (or brick it completely See sentence 1) would be to See if it is possible to overwrite the imei number with the one that is actually on the phone - you will need to check how many of the digits on the phone imei number are actually used. If that works you might move on to trying to unlock it. nicksoph

In a last shot you could try the unlock method posted here. I believe you can forget a replacement because the IMEI on the box is different from the phone's IMEI, so I don't know... Anyway, there is a way to change the IMEI, I can try to assist you in this if everything else fails. You can try to put your phone with the box's IMEI and see if it works...
Guest wrtease Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 wel their is a way to check ,remove battery and write down the imie and then power on and go to dialer and enter *#06# and see if it matches .the box might be from another phone.
Guest onejay Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 well thanks for all your help guys im awaiting as reply on ebay but if it fails then ill be back and hopefully i can n get it sorted with everyones advice here. cheers
Guest Chris_67 Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 I had this issue too: The phone asked for a network unlock, no matter what SIM I used. When I chose to ignore, everything worked fine. It was a known bug in one of the first CM7-ports from tilal6991. This has been fixed since. If you have CM7 on your phone, try the latest version.
Guest John W Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 The most likely reason the phone has a different IMEI from that on the box, is that it's a replacement phone from Orange due to a lost/damaged original phone. From my experimentation, it's not easily possible to accidently corrupt/change the IMEI on the Skate as it's nvram location is locked read only, unlike the Blade where it was easily possible to accidently overwrite the IMEI.

On Skate, with QPST is as simple as click on "Apply"...
Guest John W Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 On Skate, with QPST is as simple as click on "Apply"... Are you 100% certain of that? Whenever I tried to write all nvitems, it would error on the IMEI field saying "NV item 550 read only". I was not trying to change the IMEI specifically, simply to restore a backup of all NVitems, but the message was clear that the IMEI field is read only on the Skate. The reason why it's signficant, is that there's another possible method of unlocking if what you say is true.

I will try tomorrow, but for now I won't say 100% certain. Your logic's right too about the ro.
