Guest Deya_87 Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Hello, I would like to know if you could recommend any ROM that has the best autonomy. Before, I used GSF which was great in terms of autonomy (I could leave MSN Messenger on all day) but lately my phone was rebooting on its own too often and it got on my nerves. So I switched to Moldovon High Mountain Pie (some people in the forum recommended it to me) but in terms of battery it's really bad in my opinion :( I even downloaded the Battery Calibration but still it's the same. If I have some app like Ebuddy or Messenger running in the background, the phone won't last more than 5hours... I don't want to hit out on Moldovan because I think the app is smooth and fast, so it has good points but to me the battery doesn't last that much. To give you an example, when I go out for the day, I have to disable data connexion so the battery can last all day :/ Anyways What ROM should I take? I basically send SMS (GoSms), use Facebook and Facebook Messenger, Ebuddy or Talkdroid messenger and Internet (Opera Mini or Dolphin Mini). And I have some widgets (one actually lol). I don't really play games or watch videos on youtube. Nor I use Google Maps. Thanks for your help :) Edited November 29, 2011 by Deya_87
Guest oxyg3n89 Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Hmm...strange:) i tried many roms available here, battery life is always about the same except cm7 (more performance=less battery life). as i heard,"swedish spring" rom based on froyo 2.2 has good battery (less perfomance too) when compared to any other 2.3 rom. But this could be subjective as different individuals use phones in different ways,so no guarantee. just a tip :) Edited November 29, 2011 by oxyg3n89

Thanks for your help :) I think you should just take one of the gen3 stock images and root it yourself you have pretty basic needs. (Battery lasts 2 and a bit days for me). I wouldn't use Swedish Spring and there is no 2.2.3 based roms (Serious security issues in anything less than 2.2.3)
Guest Toods Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Excuse my ignorance. but could someone please explain to me the meaning of the word 'autonomy' when used in the context of roms. The dictionary definitions don't help me much I also have a similar problem of the use of the word 'rom' but I've gathered what that means even though I don't understand why the word was chosen for the purpose :) Many thanks.

I think the word autonomy used here can be read as when the phone is able to supply his own power from the battery i.e. unplugged from a power outlet or usb port of your PC. Though I've to agree the word autonomy is badly chosen in this context.

ReadOnlyMemory is a flashable type of semiconductor which cannot be written to. The word ROM originates from the old days of computing and designates a portion of your system that should be 'indestructible' and always continue to run. It started then a life on its own in the time of gameconsoles.Games would be distributed as read-only, hence ROM...Today ROM stands for a complete operating system (OS) that is protected from write-access, hence again ROM... Seeing the ROM as an OS, it is very legitimate to speak about 'autonomy', the possibility to keep running for a certain time without having the need to 'add' anything (power, gasoil, ...) Regard the ROM as a car, it runs as long as there's gas in the tank. The 'autonomy' of a car depends on the tank it carry. The autonomy of a ROM depends on the battery of the phone. :D
