Guest Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 My OLED OSF was recently replaced with a TFT model. Mr Pigfish said Gen 1. I noted down it was a B10. Truly screen. The screen in auto brightness is way too dark. "Fixed" brightness (about 50%) is fine although inferior to the OLED. More importantly there's backlight bleed ie visible lighting towards the top and bottom part of the screen, which is noticeable when playing a video or displaying an image, especially if the top and bottom are black- so display a completely black screen and you seen the phone backlight bleed through. This didn't happen with the OLED model. I've searched and found a thread or too previously on this issue. Could other TFT users pls comment if they feel backlight bleed is normal or not (can then decide whether to seek another replacement). Many thanks.
Guest targetbsp Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) OLED screens don't need a backlight - hence the no bleed from them. Most TFT screens have backlight bleed to some degree. Edited November 30, 2011 by targetbsp

Guest Arnar Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I've bought two blades (I lost the first one). The first one I didn't notice any bleed at all (I'm pretty sure it was TFT, don't know how to tell though) I got my second one today and I can see a lot of bleed in both upper corners. Is this considered a factory defect in warranty or will I have to get used to it?

I was intending to and will check one in an Orange shop, as I don't know how likely it is a replacement would have the same problem. The OSF when first sold just over a year ago was just OLED screen. Then on becoming popular it was changed to TFT. So probably if you bought it in 2011 it would be TFT I think. Well if it's not always an issue then I'm just going to ask for another replacement. The simple argument would be that it wasn't there on the previous version and it's not of satisfactory quality.... You have to push a bit sometimes I've noted with Orange- they're not exactly no quibble with returns.
Guest targetbsp Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 There have been more than one model of TFT screen used across the Blades life IIRC so that could account for differences between 2 TFT models.
Guest jurrasstoil Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I have a TRULY Display as well (1yo swiss blade) and in a completely dark room with Brightness set to 100% and a completely black screen i can see a slight spot of backlight bleeding through near the top speaker and it fades into the normal screen brightness after about 10-15mm. I don't notice any bleeding in everyday use tho eg. like watching youtube clips or browsing the web in bed with lights off.
Guest Arnar Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Here's what I'm dealing with. It's a bit more dramatic in the picture I took but you can see how much bleed there is. Picture taken with 100% brightness on the screen. This has to be covered by warranty, what do you guys think? Was I just lucky with the first one or unlucky with this one? Maybe both? :) Edited December 3, 2011 by Arnar
Guest jurrasstoil Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Not sure how well the picture represents the effect in reality, but i'd say mine bleeds slightly less strong and only below the ZTE logo. Seems like you got unlucky that you have 2-3 spots that bleed so visibly. You could try to get it fixed/replaced, but i wouldn't get my hopes to high if I were you.
