Stopping Notification Music Fade

I'm thinking of using my Galaxy S2 as my main music player, but I hate the way there's a massive fade out/in just to play notifications.

Can this be overriden? Ideally I'd like the notification just be played over the top.

I thought this was a general android design, and not something device/rom specific hence the post in this forum.
