What on Earth happened ...?

Alright. I need a damned new computer. My post has just disappeared three times after random browser refreshes. mad.gif

Anyway, some random info that probably isn't relevant: I have a TFT, San Francisco-branded ZTE Blade, originally Gen I but updated via TPT, running since 15/11/2011 CyanogenMod 7.1.0 nightly 257. This was heavily skinned with several custom .zip files added.

Anyway, yesterday evening, I was using my Blade on 1% charge (bad, I know), at which point it powered off. I put it to charge, waited a while, then watched it power on of its own accord and start displaying a scrolling wall of green text blink.gif apparently running 'updates' to system files. I was then booted to Clockwork 5.0.2.0, where rebooting and reflashing failed -the latter resulting in an 'installation aborted' message. I then connected to my PC, copied over a fresh nightly 257 .zip file to my SD, and flashed successfully, booting into clean, unskinned Cyanogen.

Necessarily, I have lost all my apps, data and customisations sad.gif. Bizarrely, I cannot even access my contacts, even though they're usually left alone by a wipe and flash. I can access my pictures, though, which are definitely stored on SD.

Can anybody at least tell me what happened? Is this a virus? And how can I get my contacts back? I've also noticed, being on PAYG, that my credit drains far faster than it should (I have no wireless data allowance). Is this evidence of malware?

Thanks in advance.

I've half a mind to revert entirely to stock, do a full wipe and send back to Orange and exchange ...doubt they'd allow it, though.rolleyes.gif

It sounds like you forgot a very important step when you tpt'd to gen 2. :( namely to delete the tpt files. If left there, they'll run again if you power the phone on with one of the buttons pressed in (I forget which button). But basically, you gen2'd it again.

It's harmless long term, you can just setup again. It's not malware or a fault. Just make sure to remove the tpt files from the sd card. The Image folder I think?

He said he watched the phone power on of its own accord. It sounds like it was reflashed but if he is sure he didnt touch it, then are there any other possibilities targetbsp?

Maybe that button was pressed up against something when it came back on after getting enough charge? *If* it comes back on after power loss? Dunno, never run one flat.

In any case, it sounds highly likely from the description of the text that it's the tpt it ran.

Unless a gen 2 backup rom can be restored there's not much that can be done but set it up again - whatever the cause was.

OK, thanks.

Been offline ages ohmy.gif. Doing what I can to sort this mess out, ect.

Does anybody know what's up with my contacts, though? When I first ran the TPT, my contacts were left alone. Why are they missing now?

Really should've stored them on my SIM...

...Guess I'm stuck with 'mum' as my only contact for a while, now tongue.gif...

You need data to get your contacts back from google. Then go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync, click your google account under 'manage accounts' and click sync contacts.

What's wrong with that ? LOL

Anyway, dunno about CM ( I ditched it in favour of Moldovan) but you should not only sync with Google, but also make a dump of your contacts on the SD. In the contactslist you can easily export the lot to a *.csv that is readable for any Google flavour...

:D
