Help - Touchscreen Recalibration

Hey all,

Sorry to make another new thread but this is a new problem that I'm having.

I have followed various guides on modaco to attempt to run a recalibration app on my Vega.

I have successfully managed through CWM to flash these ROM's onto the device:

Pauls R8

Corvus5

Vegacomb 3.2 9n

However after attempting to boot into USB Host to use a mouse for navigation.

Vegacomb will NOT boot into host no matter what method i try.

Corvus5 WILL boot into host but only 2/3rd of the screen is reachable to mouse cursor won't move over to the right 1/3rd of the screen.

R8 will also not boot into host mode no matter what i try.

I have also attempted to use DroidExplore's ScreenCast feature but after going through the EULA ADB deactivates and ScreenCast freezes and will not reactivate leading me to have to reflash moddedstock.

I have read that through ADB you can force a calibration tool to run.

I'd also be willing to purchase a Vega Docking station if anyone knows where it's possible to buy one as PCW and Currys are out of stock

If anyone has any ideas to get this darned calibration tool to run i'd be forever indebted!!!

Thanks Welshy

Does the screen work at all? Had to take my Vega back to pcworld after 3 days as when it got warm the centre of the screen wouldn't respond. On vegacomb if you can get into shuttle tools you can select USB host mode. Hope this helps.

Quite. Why do you think that the problem on your vega is due to screen calibration rather than screen is in need of a warm iron fix ?

Jimsie - It works and quite the opposite the warmer the screen gets the better the response. Can't navigate in Vegacomb unless anyone knows of a VegaComb ROM with ADB activated from flash so i can use droid explore.

IanTurner - Is that an actual fix forgive me if it's a saying as in it's broke but at this point i'd try anything at this point.

It's a fix for a problem with poor contact between the glass and digitizer but is a bit drastic (but then it's a richardmlea patent solution and I wouldn't put it past him to experiment with the microwave in pursuit of a solution :D )

When did the touch screen stop working properly ? Under what conditions is it currently working ?

Hmmm a microware oven, Great thinking Ian, outside of the box, I like it!

I may try it later

I don't know the details of when it stopped working sorry, I work in a small computer shop and we purchased it in this condition.. We do have a resident android wizard but I was given a crack at this and made surprising progress.

The screen responds in a few places and truth be told placing my palms across the screen seems to make the screen respond better for a period of time.

Could you link me to richardmlea's guide for this or just the details i.e. do i wrap it in a towel what temp how long.

Trust me when i say i've searched the web inside out and haven't come across it ?

Here's my method

It was 100% successful at first but got a small dead spot after about day. I think I could have fixed mine completely but i have now knackered the ribbon connector.

You could also try Grahams Iron method (discussed in my fix thread) as he managed to fix it 100%.

You may need to run the calibration app after you attempt the heat fix, alternatively just re-install the stock rom and that should calibrate the touch-screen when it runs for the first time.

Good luck

Thank you very much richardmlea!

Guides pretty detailed we happen to have a solder station with a built in heat gun.

Lets get cracking will let you know of success or disaster

Okay so i gave it a shot!

Didn't make any difference on the first or second try. When i boot up the touch screen still acts all whack!

Richard i've seen you post a couple of ROM's on here is it possible to get a USB debugging Pre-Activated ROM.

Any ROM will do i just want to use Droid explore to navigate to Calibration

Tried modded stock ADB turns off after going through EULA

I have mine here with a fresh install of vegacomb 9n with honeyice 3.2.7. USB debugging is checked and I havent put in on so it must be like that out of the box (so to speak).

Its a bit cheaky but you could take it down to PCworld or dixons with vegacomb on it, ask to plug it into a dock and use a mouse to run shuttle tools and the calibration app. I had a sinilar problem to you once and I used my dock to solve it (needed someone to point it out to me though )

Hmm possibly i don't think i've tried seeing if ADB is activated on Vegacomb always had a mouse in for host mode.

I'll try that tomorrow thanks Richard!

I'll let you know how I get on, if I'm successful I might compile a guide of what worked for me doesn't seem to be one straight fix so i'll post what worked for me..

I suspect its honeyice where a DB is left on and it's purely accidental depending on what the developer was up to when he built the latest release
