Guest WCR4_6 Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Bought one of these today - running 2.3.5 - from Orange What I want to do is not root it (as I've tried to follow the guides on here for Windows 7 64-bit - with no success due to the amount of incomprehensible jargon used). I do want to Flash a stock version of the ROM (either 2.3.5 or a better version if one is available) to get rid of all of the Orange Branding Crap and Bloatware on it. Tried to follow a couple of the guides on here again - with no luck due to the jargon used. So - can someone please take me through the procedure to flash a Stock ROM onto an unrooted handset in just about plain English. Thanks
Guest Atomix86 Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 The jargon as you put it is inevitable, if you want to flash the 2.3.5 stock rom check the stock rom sticky as it tells you how.
Guest WCR4_6 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Managed to get it done via the "put the image onto the SD and invoke a hardware update from the phone settings" route. Quick question (as I'm fairly new here) - what version of Android can be run on this handset - can we get any of the newer builds (ICS mainly) onto the handset? And how can i get the Weather and Time to display as they do in this screen? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6n62jleOom8/Tr5cIGoSIGI/AAAAAAAAAXk/WezpuCAGIOM/s1600/IMG-20111109-WA0000.jpg
Guest Atomix86 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Not sure about the clock but ICS is in the process of being ported right here on this forum.
Guest WCR4_6 Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 Superb! Found the clock widget btw - if anyone else wants it - it's in the Market as "Simi Clock Widget"

Guest jojozep Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 The jargon as you put it is inevitable, if you want to flash the 2.3.5 stock rom check the stock rom sticky as it tells you how. Jargon is unfortunately inevitable but I do think that the OMC forum could be made to better use of by Newbies and Gurus if some step by step guides are put together to: a) Unlock Phone Guide - there are some but Driver problems seem to be a killer. I think with some thought we can even sort that one out. B) Installing Drivers Guide - Have seen one but as this seems to be a big problem for many have to consolidate info to make things easier for all. eg. Have Control Panel screen shots showing what should be there and how to get what isn't present. c) Installing Stock ROM Guide - cant seem to find a real step by step method. eg. download this stock then do this and that. d) Installing Custom ROM Guide - Again those present need to consolidate and expand with some clear instructions. Newbies (like me) will have a clear path to follow to get basic things done. Intermediate users can have more space to discuss real matters and Gurus can excel in developing deeper. As I see it Newbies are lost, Intermediate and Gurus are spending time helping Newbies - like me. If anyone with the know how wants help in developing a guide or expanding a guide to one of the above let me know and I can put time into it. Thanks

Do you have the steps and/or links. Thanks
Guest monographix Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) ICS is in the process of being ported right here on this forum. is skate's hardware adequate enough to cope with ICS comfortably ? (total noob on smartphones here) Edited January 2, 2012 by monographix
Guest D3abL3 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 is skate's hardware adequate enough to cope with ICS comfortably ? (total noob on smartphones here) I believe so, look for CyanogenMod 9 right here. That's ICS being ported by tilal6991, tho he left this work for some time. For now is good enough imo :)
Guest Atomix86 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 is skate's hardware adequate enough to cope with ICS comfortably ? (total noob on smartphones here) It will be average at best, keep an eye on the cm9 thread for more info.
