Is the Skate/Monte Carlo the best out of all these phones?

Easily. My girlfriend had a Galaxy Ace and it was horrendous, the Wildfire S is slightly better but has an even smaller (3.2") screen, not to mention both the Ace and Wildfire S run at 320x480 resolution.

But again, my mates` galaxy ace did score 1800 on quadrant benchmark with cm7. That is 3 times more than the stock roms. My best quadrant score was 1200 at best. Cm7 also. But you have to consider the bigger screen ofcourse.

If you have a tendancy to drop your phone alot, HTC is the way to go. Otherwise Skate gets my vote...oddly enough ;-)

I am sat next to my bro right now who has the wildfire s and there is no comparison to my skate. And as for the ace it would be good if not for the poor screen res.

But my money is on the skate for the 480x800 4.3inch screen and easy hackability that zte are good for.

Skate as its the only hdpi screened one. Anything lower res is awful. Plus Skate isn't locked down like a HTC.

4.3 inch screen estate, even better performance when rooted with some good roms available and @ 90 groats from Argos. I would sell my gran to get this phone....but i couldn’t be bothered to dig her up

HTC phones are easy to unlock if you follow the guides, no different to the skate in that respect.

Especially on those devices that can be unlocked only, and only, by using XTC clip (for money). :-)

By spec, yes. By price-performance ratio, yes. By brand, no.

It really depends on what you need, if big screen is a big plus for you, then look no further.

Never once had to do that. I would never ever pay anyone to unlock my bootloader or install a custom rom.
