ROMs/Downgrade procedure for `GEN3' ZTE Blades

Dear forum,

I recently obtained an unbranded ZTE Blade which, judging by the language in the manual, was most likely originally bought in Spain and came with Android v2.3.5 (Baseband version `P729B01,' Kernel version `2.6.35.7-perf+zte-kerne@Zdroid-SMT,' Build number: `ZTE-BLADEV1.0.0B01.')

I had originally planned to flash it with the latest CM release. I, however, discovered a ZIP archive on its SD-card called `OFICIAL_GEN3_ZTE_BLADE.zip,' which led me to assume that my Blade must be a GEN3. The `Ask Mr Pigfish' application, on the other hand, identifies it as a GEN2 Blade. And in addition to this already rather conflicting information, there seems to be a scarcity of information in general on the ominous GEN3 models.

Is there a reliable way to identify GEN3 Blades?

Can I flash my Blade with the regular GEN1/2 mods? And if not, is it possible to downgrade my GEN3 Blade to GEN1/2?

AFAIK the GEN differences are just different addresses. You should compare the values that Mr Pigfish displays underneath the "you have Gen2" notice to those of a phone that is definitely GEN2. I'd post mine but I'm on GEN1.

Gen2/Gen3 have the same boot address (which was the major difference between gen1 and gen2), so Mr pigfish won't differentiate between Gen2 and gen3.

Assuming you are on gen3, all gen2 Roms will boot but there will be no signal. So you can try installing CM safely. If network doesnt work, you can downgrade to Gen2 using the TPTs here or the windows flasher here.

I uploaded a screenshot of `Ask Mr Pigfish'[1] and compared it against the values of the GEN2 Blade of an associate of mine[2]. Evidently, the sole difference lies in the kernel text of my GEN3 Blade being slightly larger (and the resulting displacement of the kernel's data.)

Am I correct in assuming that it would thus, in practical terms, be equivalent to a GEN2?

You should be able to just change libcm.so and libril-qc-1.so to get network working.

(Proper zte provided gps should also work but I messed it up when I tried(Probably just trying to do it too fast).
