Guest randomkid Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I am a newbie and would like to have a fast, stable, debranded (bloatware removed from orange), rom for my Orange Monte Carlo. I would like it rooted (superuser access). And unlocked so its able to use the "three" network in the UK permanent if possible but any will do. It is currently Orange branded and orange locked, and not rooted. I have no idea how to do ANY of this or what order to do it in but i am willing to learn. Any help is much appreciated, i need a step by step guide where i can understand everything, and know what order to do it in. Thankyou very much :D
Guest Jeff 66 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 There are several step by step guides on here. Look at the pinned topics section of the forum.

Guest randomkid Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) Can i do this first? http://android.modac...-the-zte-skate/ And this second? http://android.modac...l-a-custom-rom/ Using this rom: http://android.modac...-v25-available/ Also does the above rom automatically root the Orange Monte Carlo once installed? Or do i need to do this: http://android.modac...-the-zte-skate/ (if so do i do it before or after flashing the rom?) And what version of android is the rom i have chosen? eg: 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 etc. Finally when do i attempt to unlock the phone? Using this: Before installing clockwork recovery, after installing clockwork recovery or before flashing the rom, after flashing the rom. Thanks. Edited December 29, 2011 by randomkid
Guest Wacky.ddw Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) If you want to change your ROM just start at the top... install clockworkmod, you aint gone find it explained easyer then that :P Edit im sorry, you have to unlock it first. The link is in the bottum of my FAQ its the first link. Once you are unlocked you can do clockworkmod. If you want to go to Atomic or something, following part 2 is all you need. Guest Wacky.ddw Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 So this one first. http://www.todoleo.com/2011/12/how-to-unlock-orange-monte-carlo-zte.html Then part 2 of my tutorial. Once you do that you can flash a new ROM thats part 6 of my tutorial. good luck!
Guest monographix Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) i am a total noob at smartphones (nor ever was much interested in mobiles depths) and me too got myself my first ever smartphone, an orange monte carlo from an ebay bargain, which i will be using outside UK with a different network. My own first totally noob questions : - is it possible to turn it safely to a stock unlocked ZTE Skate? if so, are the instructions for this conversion here in modaco ? - what would be your moding / settings / editing recommendations to make the best of this phone (compatibility and performance wise) but safely and within my novice limits ? (eg are the custom roms suggested over the stock ZTE Skate Android rom?) Thanks! Edited December 30, 2011 by monographix

Guest jcmyall Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 You should unlock the phone first, then install a custom rom. Make sure USB Debugging is turned on before you attempt anything. (Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB Debugging) Now, read through this tutorial: http://android.modaco.com/topic/348403-want-to-unlock-your-omc-skate-tutorial-here/ Don't just read it once. Read through everything at least three times before you do anything. Make sure you get the correct drivers installed amd working first. Once you've got your phone unlocked, be sure to install ClockworkMod. Check out Atomic, Cyanogenmod 7, Cyanogenmod 9 and Elitemovil. These are all custom roms which are superior in every way, shape and form to the stock Orange rom. Personally I use Cyanogenmod 7 because it's probably the most customisable rom of all. Cyanogenmod 9 is the latest version of Android. Ice Cream Sandwich. It's still in development but it's good enough to use as your main rom. Atomic is great. It's probably got the best performance when it comes to gaming, it also has 480p video recording. Elitmovil is also great. It's got that HTC Sense style to it and adds a bit of gloss over the Android UI. Also has 480p video recording, if I'm correct. All the custom roms will come with Superuser. You'll have no need to root your phone, unless you want to stick with ZTE's stock rom or Orange's rom.

Thanks, however part 4 of your tutorial is atcually rooting the phone, when should i do this? i know you say: " only necessary if you want to stay on your stock ROM, or any other ROM that does not have Super user preinstalled" But i am still unsure as to which rom i want, basically i am looking for a stable rom of android 2.3 that is debranded any ideas? Reading through Atomic rom its all themed on ice cream sandwhich and after reading through comments the battery life is meant to be alot worse. and if so does it have Super user preinstalled? Thanks again. Edited December 30, 2011 by randomkid

Thanks again. What i meant by that is if you want to stay at your original stockrom you can just do superboot. This way your recovery wont be replaced by clockworkmod since you dont need clockworkmod if you dont want to change your ROM. So in your case: you want to switch to an other ROM so you can just replace your recovery with clockworkmod. So you can just install clockworkmod and then change your ROM, almost every custom ROM has super user pre installed so you dont need to do superboot first. Just start at the top of the tutorial. step 1: unlock your phone step 2; install clockworkmod step3: download a ROM like atomic or cyanogenmod step4: flash it Thats all...

I explained why custom ROMS are better then the stock ROM in my tutorial, and yes you can revert back to your stock ROM but you have to look first if it is available in the stockROM section. How to do that is also in the tutorial. Conclusion: read it ;)
Guest wrtease Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 all the roms will have superuser on them except stock but dont worry about stock rom .everybody uses atomic or cm7 or cm9 all these have superuser.

No problem :) Thats not a ROM its something to develop a ROM or make custom theme's i think. The links to all ROMs are in Part10 of my tutorial. if you have any sugestion how i could make the tutorial more understandeble for new users let me know ;) If you want best preformance i recommend Atomic, but on my phone its really buggy so i use Cyanogenmod7 it is really stable allmost never crashes has great battery life and has many functions other ROM's dont have. But as soon Atomic 3.0 comes out i will switch instantly.

Guest randomkid Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 Just came across this: How do i know if my zte blade is 1st or 2nd gen and what are the roms compatible with? 1st gen or 2nd gen etc???? Thanks.
Guest Wacky.ddw Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 If you want to change to a other ROM, you don’t need to root because almost every custom ROM has super user pre-installed. You can install a ROM trough clockworkmod. Read part 2 If you want to stay on your stock ROM, and have root access you need to install superboot. The tutorial is in part 4, but i do recommend installing clockworkmod first. I changed this part i hope this is clearer now. is clearer even a word LOL :P

Thanks. You might want to ask in the ZTE Blade forums. Usually it's just an app on the Android Market called something like "Ask Mr. Pigfish" which will tell you.

Guest monographix Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I changed this part i hope this is clearer now. is clearer even a word LOL :P It is maybe, since everyone understands it :P Thanks for the neatly arranged info here :) great job :) More android noobing (talking about words) : - Are atomic. CM7 etc come with multiple input languages? (my phone is not here yet) if no, how can i add input languages? - Is it possible that the same GPS software won't work the same in two different model phones running same OS ?
Guest jcmyall Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 - Is it possible that the same GPS software won't work the same in two different model phones running same OS ? It should be fine, but keep in mind that the Market hides anything that is not supported for your device. So if it doesn't show up in the market you'll have to accept that it's not available on your device. With it being GPS though, I can't see why it wouldn't work the same.
Guest monographix Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) Thanks :) @ Wacky : have you switched to Atomic ? any v3b feedback ? :) Edited January 2, 2012 by monographix
