Guest miguelams Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Hey. I have a ZTEBlade (Orange San Francisco) with CyanogenMod7.1 rom installed. And I had view, many people overclocking the phone and say that it obtained a better performance and a faster flow. Is it possible to overclock with CyanogenMod7.1 rom installed? You recommend? If so,there is also some tutorial? Greetings.

Just go to Settings>Cyanogen mod settings>Performance>CPU settings and change max cpu frequency gradually till it crashes. For example it crashes for you at 729mhz you set it at 710. You can test the stability with CPU heavy game like Angry Birds or run Antutu bechmark. When the phone crashes you will have to remove your battery, because It's the only way. For example I am overclocked at 750, but don't overclock that much and dont tick Set on boot.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 cm settings, performance, CPU settings. Slowly increase speed of clock. Don't just max it out and expect it to work as it will probably freeze immediately. Do not click set on boot until you are sure the phone is stable or you will be stuck with an unusable device until you reflash it. Governer choices, I am unsure but interactive and on demand seem to work ok.
Guest miguelams Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) Thank you both. But when I know that the phone is stable and i can click in "set on boot" ? PS: The battery needed to be fully charged ( 100% ) ? Edited January 2, 2012 by miguelams
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 no, a full battery is not required. Just make sure you run it for maybe a few days before you set on boot .
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Or just do as maxsas above does and overclock as needed and don't set on boot. Every time you reboot, it will then revert back to stock speeds until you need to over clock again

Guest miguelams Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) I am currently using 729mhz and is running perfectly. The angry birds runs perfectly with no lag. The fruit ninja was a game that had some lag, now runs only with a minimum lag. By the way, this causes a problem with the phone? Such as consuming more battery or something? Guest targetbsp Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) It will use a little more battery but it will only be running the CPU that high when it needs to and also remember the CPU is only one part of the whole phone using power (the screen and wifi being other big users) so it'll be less of an increase in battery drain than you might think. Governer choices, I am unsure but interactive and on demand seem to work ok. Personally, I find SmartAssv2 the best governor. Interactive is battery heavy and OnDemand caused 100% reproducible lag in a turn based game that switches between low and high CPU use as you switch from thinking about your move to carrying it out. In my head, this means it could happen in other situations where the cpu use goes from idle to max and could make the phone feel slower than it needs to do so. Edited January 2, 2012 by targetbsp

Ok tks, but i dont know what are you talking abou xD, i dont know what is "governor", "interective", "OnDemand", can you explain for a noob user(me) ? :D
Guest targetbsp Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) On the same screen you overclocked on, there's an option to change CPU governor. The CPU can automatically switch between a low speed to save power and a high speed when it's needed. The governor determines how it goes about doing this. It can be forced into a slow, low power state always to save battery, a high power, high drain state always for maximum performance or more usefully, various inbetween ones which stay at low power when the phone is idle and high power when it's in use. These ones include the aforementioned On Demand, Interactive and SmartAss. They are just different ways of the OS determining at what speed the CPU should be run at for the work it has to do. Hmm and what "option" you recommend ?
Guest miguelams Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 I like SmartAssV2 personally. Improves the fluidity or the battery? for best ? PS: I'am using 729mhz for overclock, do you think that can i use more, somthing like 748mhz ? Or its good ?
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 you are free to try it. all that will happen is the phone will either freeze and reboot or freeze and require a battery pull if it is set too high.
Guest targetbsp Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Improves the fluidity or the battery? for best ? I explained in post 9 why I favour it. :) Better performance than OnDemand with no noticeable difference in battery. Whereas Interactive is harder on the battery. Edited January 3, 2012 by targetbsp

You have no lag on angry birds ? Not even at the begning of level when camera moves from pigs to birds ?

Guest Maxsas360 Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 You have no lag on angry birds ? Not even at the begning of level when camera moves from pigs to birds ? No I don't. Only on massive levels
Guest miguelams Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 In official cyanogenmod forum, a user say to me, use the SetCPU, application. Its the same thing ? Or its better with SetCPU ?
Guest targetbsp Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Overclocking is built into CM7. There's no reason to use a third party app for the job.
