Guest 00Mark Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 Hi everyone, I was trying to install avast! which seems to be by far the best free security app. I had got the firewall etc. all set up and working fine, but then I tried to install the theft protection thing - which needed to install an update by writing to /system (or by flashing an update.zip, but the /system was the easier way). So I remounted /system to read/write, and it still didn't work. Then I changed the permissions of /system to ( y y -, y - -, y - -) which was probably a bad idea? I then opened up avast! again, and the phone froze. I had to take the battery out. Now it only boots into recoverym even if I don't use the key combo, just press the power button... Any ideas? Thanks :)
Guest k0zmic Posted January 3, 2012 Report Posted January 3, 2012 If you're using ClockworkMod then you might be able to fix it with the 'Fix Permissions' settings. I think it's under other or advanced. Can't remember.

It took about 5 mins to run and then just booted normally and everything was fine :) So when I ran avast! again, I just chose to flash the update.zip and it worked fine that way. Thanks!
