Guest bartvdv Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) The headset that came with my OMC is, let's be polite, rubbish can't even keep it in my ears... anyone found good alternative, i have some jabra earphone pieces and they sound great, however the mic is in the BT3030 piece and the radio won't work over bluetooth. I use radio frequently while bicycling from and to my work ... but now if I get a call i have to disconnect everything and reconnect when the call is over .... I already tried some headsets like for the htc desire but the sound was very very low, hardly could hear anything, and it seemed it didn't act like an antenna what so ever... I also ordered a Iphone 3GS headset and still waiting for that one but perhaps somebody already figured out a better headset than the default ZTE headset Edited January 9, 2012 by bartvdv

I've found that standard Nokia ones work well, very clear sound, and the antenna and microphone work correctly. The issue with the Desire ones is that they are wired out of phase, best description I can think of is that it'll turn some music tracks into a karaoke sounding version, cutting out the centre frequencies and removing the vocals...however if you hold down the "call end" trigger that's built into the wire, it puts the missing frequencies back, and the sound is loud and clear. Unfortunately, they'll still only work as headphones, and not an antenna. Edited January 9, 2012 by PedroVader
Guest bartvdv Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 I did buy and try the nokia N72 headset but the problem remains, as long as there is a microphone in the line the vocals will be removed ... and as soon as I disable the mic by pressing the button sound is ok, but doesn't come close to jabra or sennheiser headsets without microphone also did try the apple 3GS / 4G same result and even bought a new jabra headset with mic and to my horror ... same Sh*t ... it looks a bit like a pin out "problem" on the headphone jack which nokia headset do you use ?

If you put it in the jack for 75% it should work fine (this is the case with iphone ears)
Guest ronc2000 Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Headset for Nokia N95 should be OK. But headphones within a headset is usually poor. You can use a good quality headphone that you are happy with by using a headset adapter. Search ebay for "headset adapter San Francisco".
Guest bartvdv Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) Thanks all, the problem is the wiring, nokia and apperently ZTE reverse the ground and mic pins... Normally from the tip it is L R G M , however nokia and zte are using L R M G ... And there are many adapters for it on ebay so I ordered one for ONE dollar ... I let you know how it works out .... And digging a little further made clear that there are cables with microphone available for nokia and most probably working on the ZTE skate too with a headphone connector, microphone is build in in the headphone connector which make it possible to use short wired headsets as well like for BT sets or something .... Guest PedroVader Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 (edited) I used the headset from a Nokia 2700 classic, they look like this: I've just inherited a set from a Sony Ericsson x10 mini pro my son used to have (till he gave it a bath..Muppet) haven't tried them on a call yet, but the sound is fine, excellent midrange and bass, with the equaliser set right, and bass boost on mild. Tbh, the phones Max volume through them is too much to handle, its only comfortable to listen to at around 70% before I hear distortion on the low end. Edited January 30, 2012 by PedroVader

Guest bartvdv Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 there is a little more than just loud to music ... most I have stored on the phone is flac or ape or at least 320kbps mp3 and for some reason I like to keep the equalizer as flat as possible and also there is a lot of difference in equalizers and players ... at this moment I use winamp pro and I tried DSP a few days ago and was more or less horrified by the sound quality

The distortion I mentioned is more than likely the headphones themselves, the phones output is quite powerful with the wrong cans. I've dug out my old Sennhieser's to compare, and the distortion isn't there with those, but I can't walk the streets with them on, my kids would die of embarassment!!

I did repair that sort of PA amps and just about every electrical equipment including in the 90's building electrostatic loudspeakers and the subsequent amplifiers ... Anyhow these days, it is kind of strange to sit in public transit or on a bicycle without some kind of earphone in, and I even took this phone so I could internet during travelling, since no one talks anymore and focusses on his or her smartphone.... embarrassment is when, and I do that a lot when the sound is good, singing along while bicycling ...
Guest JThumar Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Which one did you order ? I also face the same problem i have a CVOX jacket which has inbuild earphone which dont work with my ZTE skate. Any idea how can i get this sorted out ? It does not make any difference whether you use such adapter or not. Just plug your headphone directly into the phone. Either way you have to unplug the headphone to answer call. You need an adapter only if you want to use the mic in the adapter.

Guest bartvdv Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Already using a converter cable with microphone and where i can plug in any headphone ... I loved the good old headphone during the cold  warm ears and music ... The cheap converter cable was a "rip off" it has only 3 wires so basically it is the same as plug in any headphone but without shortcicuiting the microphone so the so what more expensive ones for ZTE blade come into the picture
Guest JThumar Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Do HTC earphones work on Skate ? Guest bartvdv Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 nope I had HTC too ... only nokia will work in standard configuration due to the wire configuration ... you need a converter cable with htc
Guest john.smith Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 This one works with Skate and the audio is better than the bundled headset if you like the in-ear design. http://www.casesss.com/product.aspx?model=48&pid=244 nope I had HTC too ... only nokia will work in standard configuration due to the wire configuration ... you need a converter cable with htc
