is Signal Boost via wifi possible on a custom ROM?

I asked this on the blade forums a while ago (http://android.modaco.com/topic/348406-wifi-signal-boost-on-the-zte-blade/page__p__1842117__fromsearch__1#entry1842117).

The monte carlo stock ROM had an app that did it but I didn't stay on that ROM for more than 24 hours...

Basically what I want to know is whether it's possible to use this feature on another network other than orange (I'm on 3).

Also do I just need the app or would I need to take other stuff from the stock monte carlo ROM too?

Only for custom roms based on the 2.3.4 OMC rom that also keep it in, and only for orange.

Ah ok. If a network included their own app in one of their own phones do you think it would work on the monte carlo?

If it wasn't tied into the phone hardware profile itself then I don't see why it wouldn't.

Signal boost is Orange's brand name for a technical standard called UMA and now GAN

Orange is the only UK network to support it at the moment, so you can't use it with Three.

I seem to remember someone managing to extract it from the stock rom and using it in a custom rom, and it involved taking the libs/kernel drivers with it.
