Guest Novek Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Since the early days of phones, the most irritating thing to get was scratches on your phones screen. In 2007 Corning's Gorilla Glass became the saviour for many of us (those that got phones from the "right" manufacturers that is). It's not a lie that these screens are far better at resisting scratches than the hard plastic ones, but they're not perfect. You can treat your phone as carefully as possible, but without a screen protector you will get those small scratches that you just see in direct sunlight. Yes, I know, they don't ruin the usage or real experience of the phone - it's just irritating for the enthusiast (like me). Corning have announced that their new Gorilla Glass 2 will be 20% thinner and hold the same scratch resistance (i.e. screen protectors are still required for the discerning). The thinner Gorilla Glass 2 enables slimmer and sleeker devices, brighter images and greater touch sensitivity. We welcome the new glass, and cross our fingers for an even better glass in the future... Source: Corning This item was promoted to the News page - click here to view.
Guest JetKun Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Hmm. If ZTE ever stick Gorilla Glass in their phones, I'll be blown. :D
Guest unrandomsam Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 You can still scratch Gorilla Glass and it is still possible for it to break. The reason for this is because the patents expired a long time ago. I would rather have anti glare etc than glossy and thin. There is no really indestructible good Android phones. (Not Toughpad quality anyway.)
Guest unrandomsam Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Only reason you notice those scratches in direct sunlight is because you cannot actually use the phone properly (At all ?) (Again Panasonic Toughpad looks to have solved this).
