Guest PsYcHoKiLLa Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) Did Orange not offer you the protection plan? If so, just ring them up, if not, you could maaaaybe phone them up for the plan, wait a cpl of weeks and then claim it :P If you do want to try taking it apart, of someone doing a teardown (taking apart and re-assembling) of the original Blade, I'd imagine the process would be similar for the new version. Guest purplegrape Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Well, it only cost £100 so I declined any insurance! Thanks, I've checked the video and I think it might be a bit past my abilities, so will mull it over. :)
Guest Amphoras Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) If you bought it from Orange, it should still be under warranty. I know this probably won't be covered, but you could always phone them up and see if they will send a replacement or can repair it. Worst they can say is no and you are back where you are now. Guest MCZQ Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 This guy needs a battery, maybe teaming up and splitting a newly bought phone could be useful: http://android.modaco.com/topic/350868-someones-pinched-my-battery-sf2/
Guest Apepa Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 (edited) I've just done it. Unfortunately the process isn't as easy as it was for the original OSF. I couldn't work out how to get the whole front facia off without damaging it or the circuitry, so it meant getting a small flathead screw driver between the front buttons and the old screen and prising it off. Since it was glued on to the front facia, it came off in small shattered pieces. Hooking up the new digitizer was actually quite easy in comparison. There's a little chip that glues onto the circuit board at the back that you need to feed through a small hole (a bit tricky), and a couple of tiny ribbon cables that clip in, and the actual digitizer just glues back in. I got mine off eBay for £15 Edited May 18, 2012 by Apepa
Guest purplegrape Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 Blimey, I bet your heart was in your mouth when it shattered completely. Thanks for sharing that, I didn't realise that you could get replacement fronts now! I've been struggling along with different blips and marks under the cover that have been driving me nuts! Do you find it's working just like before now? I've just been on ebay, is this similar to what you got? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-original-TOUCH-SCREEN-Digitizer-Orange-San-Francisco-II-/251043380165?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3a7359fbc5#ht_2086wt_1037
