Guest Bigpaulmac Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Hi All. I gave my daughter an orange SanFrancisco which has been a faithfull phone. A couple of weks ago she dropped it and cracked the screen. Due to the cracked screen the swipe pattern was not recognised and she has not made a note of her google account details. I bought a new screen on ebay and replaced it and it is now ready to go again. Unfortunately i cant get it going as it is reading 'too many swipe attempts. I have searched the forums and decided to root the phone but i do not know whether the phone is gen1 or gen2. As it is locked i cant run Mr pigfish to see. I really hope that someone can advise how to determine gen1 or gen2 on a locked phone. Paul

Paul, this is in no way an accusation in any way shape or form but we all have a part to play. android.modaco.com/topic/350855-zte-blade/ I would be pretty certain that your daughter had used the email facility to maybe email friends so she could ask them for her email address and recover the password from there. Its also used for youtube login now if that helps your daughter remember. There is some pretty good phone tracking software available for lost phones nowadays. It can even be pushed remotely to phones. Its can be accurate to 4 feet, remotely retrieve call and text sent and received, turn on GPS, take photos remotely, if sim is changed, the owner gets sent the new sim number so they can continue to track and control the phone. I have successfully recovered a lost phone with this software. Great stuff to have so I would advise installing one when you get the phone going.

I can understand why this situation would raise eyebrows. It is hard for me to believe that she doesnt have the google account details as this is not the first time she has been locked out of her phone. Her little brother put a swipe code on her phone a while back which he promptly forgot and she was in the same position as she is now. I had to go to orange who (amazingly) exchanged the phone for me. At the time i was an orange business customer so they were quite amenable. I am no longer an orange customer and have unlocked the phone and it was running on the three network. Bottom line is no network support with this problem. I was extremely firm with her to make a note of google account details but she doesnt really use email. She is a facebook fiend and has all those details but not her google account. As such i have no fear of being tracked or breaking any laws. I can provide proof of purchase. The phone was purchased on 09/05/2011. Would that give any clue to gen1 or gen2?
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 9/5/11 is around the same time as I bought mine. if its a uk phone, then its likely to be Gen 1 as mine was. It may be better if u set the account up just for market use etc so that you know the access codes.

I will keep you informed.
Guest Bigpaulmac Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 assuming all goes well i will set up her phone and keep a record of her new google account!!! I will keep you informed. So, heres the update. Try as i might i could not get the phone to boot up and stay with the android screen (power button and vol+ for 5 secs) which i hoped would allow me to put clockwork on it and then flash another rom. I couldnt get it recognised on my pc and there was basically nothing that i could do. After much weeping and gnashing of teeth i finally took the phone to an orange shop. the staff had no idea and called customer service. They tried to get the shop staff to restore the phone to its factory defaults. The staff explained that they could not do this. Customer service then put me through to technical who admitted that the san francisco has some glitches and one of them is that there is no way to get it into recovery mode after the 'too many pattern attempts problem' It seems that sometimes even with the right google account details the phone will not unlock. They have exchanged the phone for me!!! Anyone thinking about buying an orange san francisco should beware!!!!!
Guest sumdumguy Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 I forget my google account all the time.. it's damn annoying redoing all my contacts over because I have a siv for a brain. google allow you an alternate email address to link it too (the only one i ever remember, my main fastmail account), but I have used it for all the family's accounts and google in their great wisdom only allow 2 accounts to link to it :/ orig poster if you were sure it was a originally a gen1 phone you could have TPT eed it

I wouldn't say beware because as long as you remember your google account and swipe code, its fully functional. I've got a Uk SF as well and i love it

I've got a Uk SF as well and i love it Hi Hahawas I think beware is a fair comment. I went on my pc and logged into my daughters google account. the details were right but the phone wouldnt have it. I saw a post somewhere that said that maybe too many passwords (facebook, twitter etc) interferes with the recognition of google. I dont know but the account details were correct and orange accepted that this can happen and exchanged the phone (just remember that it is a £100.00 phone on pay as you go and they must be losing money exchanging it. They wouldnt exchange it if they could get away with not doing it!!) To sumdumguy I thought to TPT the phone you need to be able to get into recovery? I couldnt even do that! As a final note i have rooted and flashed the new phone with a clean android install (swedish spring) and it is running beautifully. Paul
Guest sumdumguy Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 No, with TPT you just need to put the image folder with the files in it on the root of the sd and start the phone with menu+vol-up+power until you see green writing on the screen. Anyway glad to see you got it going.
