Guest ltpitt Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Hi everybody... I would like to buy a domain with 10gb of hd space and put all the files our community need. I thought to get a cheap LAMP server (I've found a great deal and my credit cart is ready to fire) and put a simple php script that allows file download only to users with password and make 2 kind of users: developer = full access community member = just read Can it be a good idea? What kind of name would you suggest for the domain and... very important question: is it legal to put our files (rom, recovery and so on) online? Edited January 24, 2012 by ltpitt
Guest hfbvm Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 If you are so keen on wasting money go ahead. According to me just google free hsoting providers. Use their subdomains and upload the files. Like me.

It's 10 euros 10 gigabytes for one year and I do personally trust more what I pay for (free hosting providers can close and open and put strange rules of any kind: just like we saw lately for sopa). But if it's not needed... Better like that :) Edited January 24, 2012 by ltpitt
Guest hfbvm Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I would prefer that too. But the way SOPA PIPA are going. I dont think i would like to invest money anywhere on the net.
Guest kvkun Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) If you just need file hosting your could use the pirate bay's file hoster : http://bayfiles.com/ File size limit is 5go, no captcha, no ads Edit: I had not read well your need. Their will not be password protection with the bayfile. Edited January 24, 2012 by kvkun
Guest ltpitt Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 In the end it's up to devs. If you guys need a comfortable, reliable and easy place to put files just ask and I'll set it up in a few days. Sent from my Liquid MT using Tapatalk
Guest hfbvm Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 I made this one: http://hfbvm.net78.net/
Guest ltpitt Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 I made this one: http://hfbvm.net78.net/ If files will be there "for good" I think it's a great solution. If you can install on that web space a php script like this: http://pfn.sourceforge.net/ you can allow devs to update files with simple user / pass and no hassle for waiting and suffering again for none :)
Guest hfbvm Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Too lazy to do that. I will just mirror them myself. :)
