Hi all. Just picked up a Monte Carlo from Argos and I'm eager to get things sorted as far as unlocking, rooting and de-branding.

Pretty sure I'm OK with unlocking and rooting it's just the new ROM that confuses me! Don't really want a modified ROM on it, the Hero scared me off them because they never worked properly and nearly drove me nuts!

SO could anyone direct me to the ROM used on the sim free version, that must be better than the stock ROM... right?

The custom roms available on here work just fine. Cyanogenmod 7 is like the stock rom but with a lot more options. I'd recommend that any day.

I bought my omc recently , early january and have rooted and installed Cyanogenmod 7, atomic, and ice armour at the moment i am undecided as to which one is best ,

as an all round solution i would have to say atomic atm with ice armour a very close second.

wish both of em had a brighter dial page with bigger letters for searching .

Atomic has a better set of installed apps btw

my only bug with atomic is on vodafone the data switch is very unreliable (its ok on orange).

And with go launcher my dial button is also unresponsive sometimes (but that is on any rom I have tried )

I have CM7 and perfectly happy with it, phone is fairly quick and responsive, thus this is my first Android phone so I have nothing to compare with

Imo Atomic is mutch better, with the new version i never had any problems :P

but if you want to use something like stock rom i would go for the skatie ROM.

I am using Ice Armor at the moment,working very good indeed!

However,my personal favorite and recommendation is Atomic by Tillaz.

But I use ice armor now untill the music problem is ironed out in atomic.(music skips on rotate & pull down of notifications)

I've used all the custom roms apart from skatie, and although they all mostly work fine, in my experience ice armor is the most stable. I miss the better sound on atomic, but I'll trade that for having no problems.

At any rate, if you're set on a stock rom, there's a pinned topic on the first page listing them all.
