Guest Jaminben Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I have a san francisco which I bought probably about 12-14 months ago, I installed Japanese Jellyfish when I got it (2.2 or something?) Here is my problem: The dictionary is pathetic, every single text I make has words that aren't in the dictionary. My girlfriend's name - not in the dictionary, the town I live in - not in the dictionary, the town I work in - not in the dictionary, a city I'm in every week- not in the dictionary (Exeter!!!!) anyway you get it.... "add them to the user dictionary!!!" i hear you say... I do. And its fine. But then I turn my phone off... and its all erased. Its not like I run out of memory, my phone's memory isn't full and I have an 8gb card in it too. When I go on language settings I have text settings HTC_IME mod and when I scroll down that it says Mods by jonas@xda (v27) if that helps? It literally makes me want to get a different phone, I can't send a text without having predictive text coming out with eyetdp instead of exeter and daze instead of faye! I used my old nokia 3510i the other day and to be honest it was a joy, and had a much better selection of words and seemed far more "intelligent", predictive text often throws words at me that I've never even used in my life, and common words I have to open the menu for! So basically that's my problem, the dictionary built into the phone is pathetic and the user dictionary gets wiped everytime I turn my phone off (which is each night). Help!
Guest swukjay Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 install a newer rom that ones old now! :)
Guest targetbsp Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 Or failing that... install a different keyboard. :D
Guest Watashi_PT Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 The thing with that mod (htc ime keyboard) is that it never saved the words in the dictionary. If you want that install a new keyboard. I'm using SWIPE and for now is the best i've used
Guest rider89 Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 I'm using this keyboard (HTC IME Mod by jonasl v27) and yes it erases the user dictionary every time the keyboard is killed(killing process or turning of the phone). I love this keyboard and I couldn't think of changing it to another so I export the user dictionary every time I add a word to it. It is saved to SD card and the name of it is " htcimedict.txt" and I do import after every reboot. It is very annoying at the beginning but with time your dictionary lacks much smaller amount of words. To make it less annoying you can add some words (like those city names and your girlfriends name)directly to the dictionary manually. Just in case every time I add a word I do the export dictionary and I copy the file to another folder on my SD card in case I miss the button and click export instead of import after reboot (empty dictionary file replaces the filled one-really not cool when you have 400words added like me) and to not do the import stuff to often don't turn of your phone every night, just go to airplane mode instead. Newer Roms have better dictionaries in stock Android keyboard (like Swedish Snow RLS3 by Konsta) but I love the HTC IME and that's how I deal with this stupid bug. I hope it will help you. And I'm sorry for my not to good English.
Guest Konstipated Kiwi Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 I currently use Swiftkey x from the Market and find the predictions very good. There are four different themes (illustrated on the app's homepage on the Market) if you don't like the default black one. The bonus with this keyboard is that it [optionally] imports words from your text messages, emails, Facebook postings so most of the custom words you use regularly should be there already.
