Best stable ROM

Hi Chaps,

I'm running an OMC with the stock firmware from Orange...

I was wondering if one you kind souls would give me a headstart. Couple of questions

1 - What's the most stable ROM - CM9 looks unstable so I'll probably be looking at a CM7

2- Flashing procedure in a very brief nutshell

eg

Step 1 - Unlock (mandatory y/n)

Step 2 - Superboot - root access (I would assume this is mandatory ;) )

Step 3 - Install ClockworkMod Recovery (I would assume this is mandatory ;) )

Step 4 - Flash radios ?

Step 5 - Flash CMn as per normal.

Am I on the right track ?

Cm7 is perfectly stable and pretty minimal a great base to start on.

You only need to unlock if you plan on using something other than an orange sim card.

You do need to install clockworkmod recovery. Then just wipe and flash a rom.

Thanks mate, that implies that I'll need to root it also :)

Still a little confused as to which CM7 to go for... There seem to be a few different threads here and no official support from CM for this device. Just point me to 1 ROM and I'll be happy.

From what I've gathered, it seems the most popular stable ROMs are CM7 / Ice Armor and Atomic. Could someone help clarify what the main differences between the two are? The only comparisons I can find are several versions old...

The only theming is Ice armor theme,which is theme Chooser,so easy to switch.

And the only other things I can think of are custom animations(easy to disable) and stock android bootanimation says ice armor...which I don't see now because I use my own choice of bootanimation.

It is a rom worth checking out,very stable.

My number 1 choice was Atomic,but unless the music skipping is fixed I cannot use atomic as I listen to music alot.

It's pretty much the same but much more up to date. CM settings has been improved and overall it is faster.

Its is themed but that can be removed. Apart from that its pretty identical.
