Guest betterthanjordan79 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) I was wondering is it possible to change rom and restore all my apps into a new rom. I want to change from CM7 to Ice Armor. Is this possible or do I just havta redownload all my apps and use link2sd again to put them back on to the SD card. Guest PedroVader Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Your apps will be synced with your Google account, but I personally do it this way: Make sure they are all up to date, Back them up with androzip or estrongs: Back up messages with small backup & restore: Backup my whatsapp messages: Reboot to recovery and do a nandroid just in case: Wipe and flash new rom: Reboot and put it all back. You could use titanium, and save your data too, but all I ever need is my messages, none of my other apps hold any useful data that doesn't already sync with external sites (Google, twitter, linkedin, tapatalk) Edited February 2, 2012 by PedroVader

Guest PedroVader Posted February 3, 2012 Report Posted February 3, 2012 So theres not way to force the rom to recognise the link2sd partition? This is how it works: Link2sd sets up a symbolic link for the app, like a desktop shortcut, to your ext3 partition, so it appears to the OS that its installed to the data partition. When you flash a new rom, all those links are gone, and ext3 gets wiped as part of the preinstall anyway, so the app data wont be there. Bottom line, if you need to keep the app and it's data, use titanium backup (eg, you've played angry birds and nearly completed it, and don't want to start fresh, titanium will restore your game data) if you just want the app, backup either with titanium, or the same way I do. I've got pretty much every .apk I've ever used saved on my SD card, so I can always install them if I want to, doing the occasional backup if the app gets updated. Its quicker than waiting for them all to download. Hope this helps/makes sense ;-)
