which tool i must use to extract and repack boot.img completely

dear all developer i want to ask you please answer my qustions im still newbie :(

1. which tool i must use to extract " boot.img " which include inside flashable rom because im already using tools named " YAFFS" and i have no found extracted files :( . if u have tools can u give me a link for download? any help will be apreciated.

2. how i can repack from extracted boot.img files .

3. if use linux for extract can u give me command usage details for execute ?

if youre using windows, its probably easier to install linux first. then download the android source code (CM is fine too), and look for mkbootimg (I thinkthats waht its called, and there are a few other tools)

im using both linux and windows 7 , please which tool i must use for extract and repack it :)

i have been try already im extracted my boot.img and split with unpack-bootimg.pl , before extracted have size 3mb and after extracted only 280KB and im only see file named ramdisk only , im not found the kernels :(
