Interesting - Bricked?

Hi everyone.

I have developed some problems with my OSF and as I could not find anything similar anywhere I thought I would share my experience.

Please note that I have now replaced the phone with another one so am not really desperate to save it. However any advice would be useful.

Some months ago my other half spilled water over my phone. I took the battery out immediately and dried it for two days before putting the batter back in. When I did it the android logo got stuck on the screen. I tried to do something to get it work by switching with/without battery - with some button pressed etc..... After some time I noticed that when I press the power button 25 times the phone restarts (logo dissapears for a moment and comes back after a second).

I watched some football on tv and kept pressing the power button and after some minutes the phone system started as nothing happened. I worked no problem at all until I took the battery out and tried to switch it on again. Again got stuck. And again I kept pressing for tens or hundred of times the phone would start. And so on.

After some time of using the phone I got really bored of being absolutely careful of not getting the battery discharged so thought I would give it a try with reflashing it. As I was new to it I used the methods in the brilliant [Guide] de-bricking a ZTE Blade Recovering from a bad flash - Blade/Libra/v880

Nothing would work until I got to method 5. I went through most of it until it came to starting phone in FTM mode. This would not work - I used the gen1 firmware as I though that Orange would use this.

However then I started playing with other firmware. I know I will be told off that this cannot be used if the phone is not suited for it but I thought that it would not cause any more trouble anyway. I found that if I used some of the gen2 firmware the FTM mode would start but I woudl not be able to start Clockworkmod (stuck on green man).

Eventually I installed Unicom Gen2 stock and clockworkmod started when switched the phone on. Only a chinese version. Anyway I managed to flashl the clockworkmod preloaded on the sd card but it would not start again anyway (again got stock on the green man). I tried flashing a ROM but with the same effect.

So here I am now with a new phone (Xperia Ray) and wondering if my old phone is now bricked and I can get rid of it or is there any hope for it to get alive? Seems weird that the clockwork mod on one firmware starts on another not. Does seem the phone works but maybe I am wrong.

Do you guys think it is a hardware problem or software. If the latter any advice welcome.

Sorry for the lenght of the post but thought I would share my unusual experience.

I'm not really sure you want help. You did all this despite warnings and installed anyway so either you don't care about the phone so sell it on eBay, or you don't care about learning android basics so shouldnt ask for help after hundreds of random button presses, and even more random rom installs.

orangesanfranciso.co.uk may help or even do some reading here. Learn and don't expect help or sympathy after doing all that to your phone.

eBay.com if you dont want to learn

You are right mate. I read my long post again and it might sound like I dont really care about the phone.

This is not really the case and sorry for any confusion. I would like to get the phone working again as I really liked it and I would like to explore the world of android a bit more, but I am not sure anything else can be done to make it work. I spent few days reading this forum and did most of the stuff recommended for "bricked" phones but nothing seems to worked so far.

What I would appreciate is some advice on:

1. What might have been the reason that the phone started only after every few tens of restarts - hardware issue after the water spill? I suspect this might be the case as when I load any firmware other than the chinese Unicom it freezes on green man or only goes to FTM. However, If the phone starts and display works - would it suggest that the phone is not bricked and something could be done?

2. How to check gen1 or gen2 for the phone when the system does not start now?

3. What is the difference between chinese Unicom firmware and any other firmware so that my phone goes to clockworkmod after the first one, not any other.

4. What to do next? Any ideas what I could try. Maybe there is anyone here who would like to give my phone a go (for a reasonable fee).

Thanks and any advice would be welcome.

First of all, what country is the blade from? Also roughly when was it bought. Chinese blades have 256mb ram, European blades have 500mb ram generally. Using a Chinese rom may have rendered the phone useless.

Regarding the button presses, I guess that was just luck.

Small amounts of moisture could have been left internally in the phone and when powered on, could have shorted a circuit out. If this is not the case, you have been extremely lucky.

Is clockworkmod currently installed on the phone? If it is try power on and volume down, this should get to cement recovery. I think a full wipe from here would be the first step. Did you do any wipes at all while installing any of those roms?

I can't really help much and this will need someone with plenty of experience. I never deviate from the steps given so am unsure of where you currently stand.

sorry for not responding mate, I was away for a while with no access to internet

the phone was bought in Nov/dec 2010 from on Pay and go from orange website so I guess it should be gen 1

when I install gen 1 firmware using method 5 from nothing happens (stuck on android logo)

when I install gen 2 firmware using the same method the ftm mode starts but cannot load the clockwork

when I install chinese unicom gen2 - clockwork starts even without pressed vol down - but in chinese version (I managed to install the rom from it somehow withouth knowing the language) - after the restart it comes back to clockwork anyway

sounds a bit messy doesnt it ? - I have spend few evenings reading the forum and couldnt find anything similar so far

you might be right that the phone is just bricked due to the water and there is not much to do with it but if any has any ideas or suggestions would be greatful

Guys, has anyone got any ideas?

If not, would someone experienced be happy to have a look at my phone? I am happy to cover some expenses related with it (to a reasonable extend). Please send me a private message if youre interested in helping me out.
