Guest DonJamal Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Hi there.. My friend has got this phone, and he got into trouble with the screen. From one moment to another it goes off. Tried to reboot, switch off switch on but the screen was still black.. She brought the phone back to the service two times, but the problem still exist. In the service they said, try to replace the memory card with a new one, but i guess its not memory card problem Sombody some idea? thanks

Guest NorthernNoel Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 It's not the proximity sensor issue is it?

Guest razzmataz1478 Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 It's not the proximity sensor issue is it? That only effects calls ;)
Guest WAWA72 Posted February 26, 2012 Report Posted February 26, 2012 Get a New one? If not , i can order Display and Touchscreens for ZTE Skate.
Guest dgonch Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Hi there! Approx 10 days ago I got a Skate (actually, it was Orange Monte Carlo, unlocked by seller) with CWM 4.0.1.4 installed and CM-7 ROM preinstalled. It is my first Android device and I've really like it!:) Everything was fine till moment I got a call, during which screen went dark, device not responding to any key or screen touch and I had to pull off the battery to stop this and be able to operate device again. Then I search internet and found so called "Skate proximity sensor issue" on CM-7 ROM. I tried to install proximity sensor calibration software but it not want install itself just telling "Not installed". Calibration utility from ZTE found on the market did not even downloaded to the device teliing it is incompatible… I tried to edit proximity calibration file in system folder entering numbers like 880, 800 etc - that also gives nothing. :( Seller supplied me with CM-9 ROM in zip file and instruction how to install it - I did, but sensor also was not working. Then I tried CM-7 and CM-9 Roms downloaded from this forum - that gave me no difference with results I had with roms I already had. I tried Ice Armour III but proximity sensor did not work as it has and after 50% of incoming or outgoing calls I had to remove battery to return the phone alive. I was really tired of this - not really comfortable to do this just on a street. I even tried to return original Orage ROM (2.3.4) saved by seller on SD card - proximity sensor is working there perfectly! From mod ROMs only Atomic-7 gave correct result - proximity sensor works just fine - so I am forsed to use it now. Comparing all my experiments with different roms, I found out one interesting thing - neither mod based on Android 2.3.7 works on my Skate, while modes of 2.3.5 and 2.3.4 work fine. :o Reason of this message is to ask respecable developers of ROM mods to double check this issue with 2.3.7 mods for proximity sensor issue as I really would like to try ROMs based on this version, OR - please give me a hint what is wrong with my Skate. I am always performing cashe clearing as described, but can not find out what else could be done. Thanks! :)

Thanks a lot!!! :D I have just tried what you recomment on quickly installed CM-7 ROM and seems it works fine! I will try now re-install and make all customs settings and try again - hope it will work! But I really think these data have to be mentioned somewhere in pinned topics -for such dummies as me Regards, Dmitry Edited February 29, 2012 by dgonch

It took me ages to find that fix, in fact I still cant use atomic as I cant find the file to edit prox settings, It seems that we have a different proximity sensor to most as the calibrator works for most people, but not us. But the sensor worked fine for us on stock orange rom unlike a lot of other users.
Guest dgonch Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 in fact I still cant use atomic as I cant find the file to edit prox settings On Atomic-7 I just went to settings and perform sensor calibration by means of system - I did not edit any system file at all. Try Settings - AtomicMod settings - Proximity sensor calibration at the bottom of the list opened. I am not much familiar with Android or any *nix system, but data structure in 2.3.5 and 2.3.7 are different indeed and I did not look for manual editing of the calibration file while used Atomic. System/Mod settings are worked fine in Atomic, unlike in CM-7, where calibration menu exists but not working. As for me., it really should not be hard to check proximity sensor type (I have Taos TSL2771) and copy calibration file with right string for the sensor present. Anyway, thanks again for your help! :)

Anyway, pleased to say im now flying along with tilals superb cm9 rom (had to edit prox again lol)
