Guest KMT2K Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Can anybody tell me, what program do I use for ROM Creation? I have Ubuntu downloaded, I just can't get thre program to load it on to. Help?
Guest Frankish Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 If you need to ask that much then it's really not something you should be playing with as far as i can tell. What do you mean by "make"? Compile android from AOSP? It's not a simple process although anyone can download a pre-compiled rom and just unzip it and edit certain parts. But that's not making a rom...

Sorry, I was all confused about development and stuff.

Open but don't extract the zip file then I think its system\app and there should be a messaging.apk ...replace it with yours

Guest Frankish Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Stock app is usually called mms.apk. Don't worry we were all new once. It's all about reading reading reading. I'm a geek for it
Guest syst3m68 Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 There is a tool called CRC studio for Windows(hope your dual booting) which is a pretty simple drag and drop tool, and will zip the update.zip for you. If your trying to build from sources you'll have some problems, as lunch/make doesn't like compiling for armv6/armv5 for me, no idea why. i tried making ICS. AND FAILED. D; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084126 Turns out theres a linux version now. :)

Guest rage a500 Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Check out the advanced guides on free you android. http://freeyourandroid.com/ I was thinking about the same sort of thing the other day modifying a custom rom for my own preferences would be cool. ( to me anyway) even though its not coding, I would get a idea of the structure and layout of a rom. I have no idea of the files in a rom or how it all fits together. So for a non-coder. I think it would be a great challenge and a good experience. Maybe just change one or two things to start off?

Guest razzmataz1478 Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 So what's the odex? :) And changing that, does that mean I can change my Launcher for it as well? Odex is the data stored by apps in the dalvik-cache And yes you can change your launcher as well
