Guest holtend Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 And another thing I need help with.... ;) I have atomic v6 running and installed SSHtunnel hoping to secure my connection a bit. I have a dedicated server set up with SSH access that I can use from home via Firefox or whatever. I've set it up and it works from my laptop and also works on my phone when connected by wifi when at home. I don't have a problem creating the tunnel on my phone on 2G or 3G and it says connected etc, but the browsers I have tested(opera mobile, Dolphin and stock browser) don't seem to be using the tunnel. I have tried all the checkboxes and no matter what it doesn't work. The tunnel is always connected and running but the browsers seem to be ignoring it. Is there a reason you could think of? Could giffgaff be not allowing it? In the settings it mentions iptables...I don't know if that has any effect? It just seems strange that when using wifi it works great. So Im probably just overlooking something silly.....wouldn't be the 1st time :) Thanks
Guest plegdroid Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 3g will come from your mobile operator, which may circumvent the tunnel, were as Wi-Fi is usually connecting to a different provider that may allow use of the tunnel, but only guessing this could be the reason :)
Guest holtend Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Its weird as I can SSH into my server by terminal on phone, and sftp using 3g. I'm going to try an orange sim. see if that works edit cos can't spell Edited February 18, 2012 by holtend
Guest plegdroid Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 just had a read about it, have you tried the beta version from market seems to work better that the older version :)
Guest holtend Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Yeah I've tried both versions....the tunnel is created and running. Just no apps use it over 2/3g only wifi. Thanks for trying to help :)
Guest C3C0 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Check your assigned IP when on mobile data. It is common that mobile operators use addresses from private classes that are being NATed via operator's central gateway - in this case there may be a conflict with your tunnel address range.
Guest holtend Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I went to whatismyip.com and it reports my IP as 82.132.138.219 My server IP is in 91.121 range(ovh) I have emailed the app dev to see if he has any ideas. It could be what you said though as I'm using giffgaff network and in turn they use o2 network so something funny may be going on?? At least it works over wifi so nobody can use firesheep or whatever to snoop on my traffic in McDonald's ;)
Guest holtend Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) I just heard back from the dev and it seems you were right its to do with giffgaff and a proxy they use Here is reply I got Check carefully to see if your APN includes a predefined http proxy setting' date=' which could prevent SSHTunnel from forwarding all traffic[/quote'] Its a great app and highly recommended. It works flawlessly over wifi.....which is where we need it to work :) So thanks for help, I think this is resolved :) Edited February 20, 2012 by holtend
