So I've managed to resurect my HTC Desire from the dead today which leaves me with a decision to make. I could stick with my Monte Carlo, I quite like having the big screen and it's setup just how I want it. Or I could go back to the Desire, smaller screen but it's got an arm 7. What would you do?

keep both and use one for daily use and the other for backup.

I'd be looking at ICS compatibility, Monte Carlo is almost there, not sure where the Desire is up to with CM9.

Desire is the more capable for sure, but Monte scores with screen size. I've had both devices myself and I'd have serious trouble picking, probably end up carrying both, or at least the best ICS device. I'm no Dev, if I was I'd make the Desire my main, and build roms for the Monte;)

you could send me the desire for review purposes, there is ICS for desire which i think is relatively far along (nowhere near as far as tilal though) but yeah i would like that :D

You've posted in a Skate forum.

Clearly, (me obviously not being biased -_-) the Skate.

Because he also has the OMC, aka Skate. :P Personally, I would hang onto both. I have an iPhone 4 which I use doing the working week for dealing with my work email account, but can relax at weekends and use my OMC without worrying too much about loss or theft.

Tilal has made up my mind!

MIUI 4 on the skate, then alpha/beta ICS on the desire

Desire is spec-wise much better than the Skate. Rom-support will be better to as there is already a full ICS release on codeaurora for the Desire. Codeaurora is where all the devs pull the drivers and other hardware related stuff from.

I used to have a Desire, I bought the Skate and sold the Desire. Screen too small for viewing and especially typing on the Desire !

My Desire on stock 2.3 firmware felt laggy, my Skate feels much faster on Atomic rom!

Thought I may get a few biased views here in the Skate forum :P

Ideally I'd just like honest answers from people that have used both. I'm still fairly undecided. It's not gonna have the stock rom on the Desire anyway, I ran Oxygen before that was pretty quick and close to original AOSP. ICS seems to be more complete than for the Monte (they have a working camera) although I'm not sure I'd want to go down that route on either device as GB does what I want and it runs quicker.

Oh and sorry domenico I'll be keeping both devices although one may go to the wife. Nice try though :D

I had a Desire and a Wildfire, and got rid of them both, was a bit fed up with all HTC devices looking the same, I know you can change them via ROM's etc, but I did not want to root my Desire, for fear of destroying it.. I paid £449.99 for the Desire new unlocked from CPW, I paid £119.99 for the OMC direct from Orange. The Desire was fantastic, built like a rock, fantastic quality feel, and the screen was amazing. The reliability though was rubbish, it kept overheating and ended up going back to HTC for 4 weeks!!!!! for a motherboard change.

I then saw the OMC and liked the size of the phone, the screen was OK, ok its not AMOLED but hell it's still good, it looked and felt like a xmas cracker toy in the shop, very cheap, very plasticy, and felt like it would fall apart if a gust of wind blew on it to hard. I instantly bought one, it was cheap, I wasn't to worried about loosing it, I still wrap it up in cotton wool as I did my Desire, as I hate phones with scratches on (bit of an old woman on the quiet) 6 months after buying it, it hasn't got a single mark on it, I have 10 times more fun with it than I did the Desire, it does everything the Desire did, and I don't have to wait for HTC to decide to do updates, as I had no qualms about rooting it, and the ROM's and developers for it are fantastic.

I kick myself now for buying the Desire, in future I will stick with the cheaper phones and enjoy them more than the more expensive phones, after all take off the skin and an Audi A4 is a Skoda Octavia, they both have the same gadgets under the skin, but one costs twice as much as the other, to basically do the same thing.

It's looking as though I'm going back to my desire. Rooting it is easy enough. My final choice came down to the audio quality. It definitely sounds better plus poweramp starts instantly where there is a delay on my omc.
