Guest Weezle Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 So, after a few months of getting slowly more annoyed with the stock Orange rom and its quirks but being generally happy with the phone I decided to flash a new rom... I did some research online and picked CM7, and found some "idiot proof" instructions. Unfortunately I am an idiot ;-) I ugraded from gen1 to gen2 with no problem, happy days! It was around this point that I thought about backing some stuff up, like contacts etc, which as I found out had to be done in advance - my bad. Got CM7 onto my microSD and flashed the phone; it only took a few moments but I think my heart was in my mouth the whole time! It all went so smoothly and I spent the rest of the day tweaking settings and typing in numbers (I am old school and actually have an address book!), adding a few apps and so on. I have to say that I am staggered at the difference in battery life - I know that it is early days but the stock rom was just about giving me "waking hours" of battery, ie from when I got up to when I went to bed, providing I didn't go overboard with app usage. With CM7 I am well into 30something hours and still have 58% left and that is with a few calls and wifi on all the time! Just goes to show that the Orange stock rom was doing some serious resource chewing, and provided you are not an idiot and actually follow the idiot-proof guides on these forums, the whole flashing phone experience is pretty good and worth a pitch :-)

It is better on battery time and SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH. And congratulations for stepping into the other side of Android - costumization! Edited February 22, 2012 by Maxsas360
Guest youngsta2010 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 (edited) I know how you feel I spent 3 months reading on the forum before I actually did anything, then when I did finally get round to doing it I was sure I was going to brick my phone :) Now I've TPT'd to Gen2 and on my third ROM I'm wondering wth I was so worried about ;) Edit: +1 for Swedish Snow if you want to keep it stock(ish) Stable, smooth, good battery. Great ROM. Edited February 22, 2012 by youngsta2010
Guest Maxsas360 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I actually reflashed my phone on day one, because I bought it used and imported from UK. Why? OLED. Flashed it, because it came with an early CyanogenMod7 nightly. I think N37 and It was horrible.
Guest JimJam707 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I rooted mine within minutes of opening the box :D Flashed CM7 Nightly #4!
Guest chimas Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Ya. Three months, You must be kiddding. It only took a couple of hours for me to get annoyed with the stock rom. I do mean a couple. LOL Since then have have been addicted to flashing roms

And congratulations for stepping into the other side of Android - costumization! I find such statements really puzzling. If there really is such a big difference in battery drain between two such roms then surely the cause would have easily been identified and appropriate changes made to CM7. Has anyone done a controlled comparative test using these two roms?.
Guest Weezle Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Everydoy's phone usage patterns are different, but using the phone exactly as I would normally, I have just plugged my blade into the charger a good 2.5 days after flashing, and even then it wasn't flat, but I need to go on a bit of a journey and don't wan't the phone dying en route.

Has anyone done a controlled comparative test using these two roms?. I did not, because I charge it every day, but with CM7 I see that i have less percent than I do with Swedish Snow before charging. On heavy usage there is no difference, but on light usage there is. And it's smoother, because it has HW acc on menus. (not fully sure)
