Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Hi, I put Japanese Jellyfish 2.2 on my phone around a year ago and I want to upgrade it to a stable decent ROM. I have seen that it looks possible to upgrade from GEN1 to GEN2 http://android.modaco.com/topic/338058-gen1gen2romcm-702stable-nxx-tpt-image-for-easy-install/ The FileSonic links are now broken because that site had changed so I downloaded something from Mediafire that was linked in a different post near the end of the thread. I guess I'm alright to use this(?). Also it looks like 2.3 Gingerbread is the best I can hope for, I have seen that there are 2 downloads CyanogenMod, one which is stable and one nightly. What is the difference and what is this partition business? I guess I am ok to use these once I have run the tool to upgrade from GEN1 to GEN2 and I imagine that Mr Pigfish will then show GEN2. Sorry for the questions but I have been out of the loop and confidence is low! Thanks
Guest Amphoras Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) If you're wanting a Gingerbread rom you have a few choices. You can use something like KonstaT's Swedish Snow which is based on the stock ZTE rom. There is a link in the first post of that thread to a TPT which will change you to Gen 2 and install the rom in one go. There are also instructions on how to use it there as well. The other main choice is CyanogenMod 7 as you said. There have not been any official updates for a while, so the most up-to-date version to use is one of the "KANGs" from the CM7 thread. If you read through the last few pages you will see there are a few different ones. The one made by targetbsp is compiled with no changes to the source, so is exactly the same as what an official build would be. The others have had various things added/removed from them. Before you use any of them you will have to convert to Gen 2. The best way to do this is by TPT. The ones in the thread you linked are old versions, so will have older roms included with them. You can see a list of TPTs that will convert you to Gen 2 here. If you just want to use Gingerbread, then "Gen 1 to Gen 2 v10a" is probably the best one to go for. If you want to try some of the Ice Cream Sandwich roms as well, then you'd be better using the "Gen 1 to Gen 2 v10 stock" TPT instead. There are instructions on how to use the TPTs on there as well. Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks very much Amphoras, are there any stable Ice Cream Sandwich releases? As long as I can still make calls, texts, use the camera and most of the other apps I would be fine with that. I'll upgrade the TPT to v10a first as you suggested.
Guest Amphoras Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 There are still quite a few issue with the ICS builds. If you need something stable, I would stick to Gingerbread for now.
Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 (edited) I've just done the following: Backed up my phone in Clockwordmod. Downloaded the TPT v10a zip file and put it in the SD card. All-in-one, Start TPT/ I got to the clockwordmod screen and tried installing the v10a, it looked fine but said "Installation aborted". I've tried a few times, downloaded again, rebooted, etc, but no luck? Edited February 25, 2012 by Dangermouse500

Once its off completely, turn it back on holding menu and vol+. You should see green text on the screen. Edited February 25, 2012 by De@n
Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 It was me being silly I think. I was trying to install TPT for GEN2 upgrade but it must have already been installed. Anyway, I downloaded the "update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-Blade-signed" zip file and installed it. All seemed ok, except there doesn't appear to be a way to open my applications?! The menu button at the bottom only has a link to "Manage the apps" where I can uninstall, etc. There doesn't seem to be a way of navigating the apps, e.g. I have no idea of how open the camera or marketplace since the first thing I did was remove most of hte items from teh desktop.
Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 If I hold down on the screen then I can select a shortcut and app but I can't see Market/marketplace as an app
Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Aah, I seem to be missing the google apps separate download
Guest Dangermouse500 Posted February 25, 2012 Report Posted February 25, 2012 Wasn't at all impressed with that Cryogen one, I've installed Swedish Spring RLS5 now and I'm happy with that. Thanks!
