Guest todoleo Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Orange announced they will be releasing their first Intel powered Android phone during the summer in both the UK and France. Codenamed 'Santa Clara' after the Intel HQ and manufactured by GigaByte, the handset is very similar to the Intel reference device seen at CES this year. The 4" handset has a 1024x600 screen, 8 Megapixel camera and an Intel Atom Z2460 1.6GHZ processor. The Santa Clara will launch with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), but will be updated to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) soon after launch. Here at MoDaCo, we enjoy Orange's own brand Android offerings. The Orange 'Santa Clara' follows in the path of the 'San Francisco', the 'San Francisco II' and the 'Monte Carlo' and hopefully will garner a similar community following in our forums... depending very much on the price of course! Guest 3shirts Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Gah, Gingerbread?! Launching in the summer as well. Why is it taking manufacturers so long to get with ICS? I guess it's their customisations but honestly, I'd much rather have stock Android anyway!
Guest Voxpop2011 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Orange have some great 'own brand' phones, the Monte Carlo being a case in point. However, I wish they would hold off from the hideous customisation and let Android breathe.
Guest eLJay Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 Well it's what Modaco is about isn't it? Getting good hardware and getting back to high performing stock Android. Hope they have a good price and enough people buy it (if it's any good). Just a pity they didn't go for a nexus style screen!
Guest eLJay Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 I do wish they put the Orange badge at the bottom though, it's like they needed to get one over on intel!
Guest eLJay Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 So a single core 1.6 atom with hyperthreading... when there are quad cores coming in this had better be cheap.
Guest Voxpop2011 Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 eLJay, looking at the specs, I think not. If it's over £200, I would not be interested.
Guest eLJay Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 Voxpop2011, I think your right, most things with intel written on them cost more, just not as much as apple. I will probably keep my eye on ZTE and Huawei and their top end releases.
