Guest OtherguyX Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Hello, currently im using an orange san francisco 1, zte blade 1, the first one. And i am currently on the rom swedish spring RSL5 2.2 froyo. I wish to upgrade to 2.3 but i heard you need to go to gen 2... but my friend said he upgraded to 2.3, cyanogen mod, but it was version 7.0.0 and it works on gen 1. Is this true? Also is using rom manager a good way to do it? As in, you go on rom manager, download the rom, install etc.. is that a good way to install the rom or is that unsafe? Thank you! :)
Guest Maxsas360 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Rom manager on gen1 is a very bad idea. Download an app called TPT Helper. Then use it and install Swedish Snow. It's Android 2.3 and stock based. Less hassle updating very often and great stability. Gen 1 is abandoned now.

Or he can use CM7 nightly builds if he wants a whole array of features built from source daily. Use the TPT helper app to update to Gen2 and flash the latest build frome get.cm for the Blade in Recovery,
Guest Amphoras Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 CyanogenMod 7.0.0 was for Gen 1. However it is a really, really old version. If you want to use Gingerbread, you're better upgrading to Gen 2 and using the latest version of CyanogenMod, or something like Swedish Spring as suggested earlier. If you upgrade to Gen 2 by TPT, then you can quickly and easily go back to Gen 1 again if you need to at any point.

What benefits would I get from upgrading to GEN2 apart from the latest Roms? Ray.
Guest targetbsp Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I have a GEN1 TFT ZTE Blade. What benefits would I get from upgrading to GEN2 apart from the latest Roms? Ray. Just that. But you don't need more. Good roms are very much the main feature you want in your phone! CM7.1 stable is LOADS better than 7.0 stable. I'm sure there were issues with 7.0 stable. I just can't remember what but I recall thinking when 7.1 came out that it was the first truly stable, errr... stable rom, so to speak. Previous stables had tended to be unfortunately timed and been compiled when the blade rom had major bugs that the nightlies around them didn't have.
Guest davidloweruk Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Change your zte blade gen to gen 2 wih the tpt app better roms and faster your phone will be
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) But wont using a gen 1 rom on a gen 2 memory brick it? How on earth do i do this? is there a good guide anywhere i should use? because i heard using a gen 1 rom on a gen 2 thing will brick it... so im rworried about that... i want to go to swedish snow version 4 or whatever it is.... but im not sure where to start.... edit: BTW does converting from gen 1 to gen 2 1) Remove root? 2) Remove clockwork? Edited March 9, 2012 by OtherguyX
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 hello i found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855 is this reccomended? its very clear and i understand that you basically do the tpt thing... then it will reboot into clockwork and you install your rom yes? And i download the rom on my pc and put it on my phone into SD card right, and then when it reboots i will just install it in clock work? So i need to ask, there are 3 downloads here... Custom rom version (should work well with most custom roms, more room for your apps & data) Alternative version - enough space to install most gen2 stock roms CM Nightly 257 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs latest CyanogenMod nightly build - all in one) which do you reccomend? im on swedish sprint rls5 at the moment, froyo 2.2 gen 1... i am NOT on stock orange rom. thank you
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 Instructions Copy a Gen2 rom zip file to your sd card ready to install. Check the md5sum of that against the source (you can use AFV for this). Unzip this Gen2 TPT zip file to your sd card, it should create an image directory. Check the nandroid.md5 file in the image directory on your sd card using AFV on your phone (long press on nandroid.md5 file, then Verify Nandroid Backup) Power off, wait a few seconds, then power on with menu & vol+ held. It should take a few seconds to flash the new Gen2 firmware (you should see some green text), then it should reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, use that to wipe data & then install your Gen2 rom. Once installed, remove the image directory from your sd card, to prevent accidentally reinstalling. Once you have installed this just vol+ & power on will send you back into tpt mode if there is an image directory, even if you needed menu & vol+ before. It is reversible using any Gen1 full TPT (links below), but this will only work on phones that have been upgraded using this method, not phones bought with Gen2 or upgraded with the windows software. i dont understand this... what do i need to check in terms of md5sum? So i unzip the gen 2 tpt as an image file... thats it? i thought there was a tpt app on the market and you do it that way.... what the hell is nandroid... md file,,, i dont get this at all!!! please can someone tell me an easy way to do this! its all so confusing!!!!
Guest Amphoras Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 i dont understand this... what do i need to check in terms of md5sum? So i unzip the gen 2 tpt as an image file... thats it? i thought there was a tpt app on the market and you do it that way.... what the hell is nandroid... md file,,, i dont get this at all!!! please can someone tell me an easy way to do this! its all so confusing!!!! First of all, download Swedish Snow, and put it on your sdcard. Then back up anything you want to keep, apps, data, etc. Boot into Clockwork, and make a backup. After you have made the backup, restart the phone as normal. Once it has loaded up, download this app from the market. Start the app, and go through the first questions in the dialog boxes, you should choose ZTE Blade, European Blade (if it is from the UK/other European country), and Gen 1. Once you have done this, make sure you are connected to wifi, and click on the "All in One" option. This will give you a list of TPTs to choose from, the best for you to pick just now is probably "Gen 1 to Gen 2 v10a". Once you choose this, it should download, check the md5sum, unzip, and check the md5sum again. If it finishes without errors, and it says everything is ok, go back to the first screen. Now make sure your battery is well charged, and pick the "Start TPT" option. After confirming, your phone should reboot and you should see green text on the screen. Once its finished, it should reboot into Clockwork. Once you get here, flash the Swedish Snow rom and reboot and you are finished. If the app tells you that it can't start the TPT, turn your phone off, then hold the menu and vol+ buttons and turn it back on again. You should see the green text now, and continue as before. Once you are finished, go to your sdcard and delete the folder called "image". This will make sure you don't accidentally flash the TPT again and wipe everything.
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Thanks for the reply Ok a few questions if you dont mind. PLEASE CAN YOU ANSWER ALL OF THEM!, so just write 1) [answer to question 1] 2)[answer to question 2]. 1) I already have a zipped rom, the swedish spring RSL5 rom still on my SD card from the last time i flashed it, should i remove this? 2) Does the phone run on the zipped package? so if i remove the swedish sprint rsl5 rom from my phone it wont work any more until i install new rom, or does it install it onto the phone? 3) You say to back up, is it ok to just pack up with titanium back up or do i backup with just clock work, or with both? 4) So i got this in the UK, so i choose European right? 5) How do i check the MD5SUM? (important) 6) So wait, do i check the md5sum BEFORE unzipping, then unzip... THEN check again the md5sum? 7) What if it says that TPT is NOT ok? then what? 8) Will it boot into clock work after the TPT has finished automatically or do i need to do that volume up powerbutton thing? 9) So if it cannot start TPT after you say to flash the swedish snow rom... then what do i do? where do i go next? do i restart my phone or what? 10) Where in the SD card is the image file located? Can i delete this with astro file manager or something or is it best to do it by connecting it via PC? thank you! Please answer all of them!!
Guest Android-Fan Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 1) I downloaded the TPT version of the ROM which did gen1 to gen2 too 2) It installs it onto the phone you don't need the zip or the image folder afterwards 3) Backup apps with clockwork as for clockwork - the problem is if you upgrade to gen2 the gen1 backup won't be any use I think 4) yes 5) I used: http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/md5sums/ 6) Both - you check the md5sum of the zip file with the post in the forum Then the files either with the check image folder option in 'TNTHelper' or on your computer - unfortunately this failed for on my pc and the phone but the files were ok (manually compared md5 of each file with the contents of nandroid.md5 when opened in a text editor) 7) Don't know 8) I chose 'Star TPT' from helper app and it restarted and did everything itself - the next time I had to do something was when the new rom was installed and I entered my google account details 9) Don't know 10) It should be update.zip or a folder called 'image' I guess - either way of deleting is ok
Guest youngsta2010 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) 1. Yes you can remove it. 2. It installs on the phone you can delete it. 3. Both. 4. Yes. 5. Install AFV from the market. 6. Both, long press on the zip and choose calc md5 checksum check it against the one with the download if it matches unpack it then go into the image folder long press on nandroid.md5 and choose verify nandroid backup 7. If it says failed or mismatch download and recheck. 8. Automatically. 9. ? 10. You need to unpack the image FOLDER to the root of your SD card, not in any folders. Edit: lol you beat me to it :P Edited March 10, 2012 by youngsta2010
Guest Amphoras Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 1) Doesn't matter if you remove it or not. 2) It gets installed to the phone. Once you have flashed it with Clockwork, you can delete it. 3) Doing both is best 4) Yes 5,6) If you use the all in one option in TPT Helper, it will do all the checks automatically. 7) Then you need to try again, the file has got corrupted at some point. 8) It should do it automatically, you shouldn't have to hold anything. 9) If it can't start the TPT when you click the start TPT button, then you need to turn the phone off. Then hold the menu and vol+ buttons, and turn it back on again. You should see the green text, then it should boot into clockwork. Once it does that you can flash Swedish Snow. 10) Its just on the root of the sdcard, you can delete it with any file manager or via the computer.
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 More questions people, sorry but yeah i want to be absolutely 100% sure since ive heard stories of phones perm bricking this way if you dont do it properly!!! 1) Backing up apps... well i would rather install a fresh install of every single app, i dont want a back up of any apps really... So is the back up still needed? 2) BIG QUESTION HERE! About the verifying the TPT Ok so i been looking around and here is what i have found.... on the TPT helper it says on the second option "check md5sum" https://lh5.ggpht.com/EKJPNl6MKXQ6yi4qo6ImeI8Ow3sXMdiJupqU6Ja63LXUMnjdP0xdV7OZ89NpxuwMzA but on the AFV it says https://lh5.ggpht.com/o5kmohNAurI6rYbvuX62ONThUMstQ_kECKYxAi8VtFVMGmhti67G2PwJaoS8Z9sGHg So let me get this straight.... First of all i press download a TPT from this https://lh5.ggpht.com/EKJPNl6MKXQ6yi4qo6ImeI8Ow3sXMdiJupqU6Ja63LXUMnjdP0xdV7OZ89NpxuwMzA then i choose the Gen 1 to Gen 2 v10a TPT and download that from here https://lh4.ggpht.com/L9i9u-eqrHjw5IxE-EYDTJqJdUZbTxs072fY_0s1eObDcXgv1gW03Zgpl9GAMos-iw then i go to the second option of this image https://lh5.ggpht.com/EKJPNl6MKXQ6yi4qo6ImeI8Ow3sXMdiJupqU6Ja63LXUMnjdP0xdV7OZ89NpxuwMzA and press "check the md5sum of a file"... and i go to this menu https://lh6.ggpht.com/-aeOBsNqrs_048MoYm_UpZJlAJT0F2WiUNftDnCr08foW-naH-Qnkyee47ffxfi2b-c then i choose the TPT that i have just downloaded right?, this will be zipped up right? and there will only be one TPT displayed right? THEN, back to this menu https://lh5.ggpht.com/EKJPNl6MKXQ6yi4qo6ImeI8Ow3sXMdiJupqU6Ja63LXUMnjdP0xdV7OZ89NpxuwMzA i choose the 3rd option, and then i press unzip a file, and i choose the one i just downloaded right? after here i get a bit confused... please do check that everything i have said above is correct please!!! Anyways so here i am, i have unzipped... do i then exit TPT... and then go into AFV? https://lh5.ggpht.com/ZFZVrsw_MXcX6hz3tSTKayuBtIqx0qDQvqd5lPRsMNn1Sg2c8WM25Tdbfg1bnhIZenM click check a file https://lh6.ggpht.com/HZs_eVDuA5loEaFNnUMDEc0piB6ZiseAorQJ562vjmEoHobKSqDCbMKdrIGhG1bZe7w find the file then after i have found the file that has been unpacked i choose https://lh5.ggpht.com/o5kmohNAurI6rYbvuX62ONThUMstQ_kECKYxAi8VtFVMGmhti67G2PwJaoS8Z9sGHg verify nandroid backup? or what? https://lh5.ggpht.com/EKJPNl6MKXQ6yi4qo6ImeI8Ow3sXMdiJupqU6Ja63LXUMnjdP0xdV7OZ89NpxuwMzA then press power off to start TPT then it will restart right? here does it install the rom or something? then i delete the image file, by either redownloading TPT helper and deleting... or using astro file manager right? 3) Android-Fan you say that it did everything for you... does that mean it installed the swedish snow by itself without you having to choose it? thanks!
Guest youngsta2010 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 You don't need AFV if TPT helper does it all, just listen to Amphoras' post.
Guest Amphoras Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 https://lh5.ggpht.co...dV7OZ89NpxuwMzA This is a picture from an older version. If you download the latest version from the market, then the first option will be "All In One". Click on that and you will get a list. Choose "Gen 1 to Gen 2 v10a". It will then start downloading the TPT, just wait and watch the screen. After the downloading bar gets to 100%, it will then show that its checking the md5sum of the file it downloaded. If that matches, it will then tell you that its unzipping it. Once it finishes unzipping, it will then check all the files inside the zip match the md5sums. Once it is finished, it will tell you "Number of matches: 17/17" if they all match. It it says any didn't match, or fails at an earlier stage, then you need to go back to the first screen and try again. If everything matched in the previous step, go back to the first screen. Make sure your battery is well charged. You should see an option called "Start TPT". Click on it, and it will ask if you have checked the image folder yet. If everything matched at the previous step, then click yes. Your phone should then reboot, and you should see the green text on the screen. Once it completes, your phone will reboot into clockwork recovery automatically. Once it gets here, flash the Swedish Snow zip you downloaded to your sdcard. Once you have flashed Swedish Snow, use TPT Helper, or any file manager to delete the image folder from your sdcard. This makes sure you don't start the TPT again by mistake.
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Thank you so much amphoras!!! you are an absolute LAD!!! I really am grateful for your help, you are awesome! I wish i could rep you or something. thank you, a few final questions, i am completely sure about everything except one thing! 1) Do you flash the swedish snow as a zip, or do i extract it and then do it? I know i have already flashed before but it was a REALLY LONG TIME AGO... so i dont remember much about it... and i really want to get to 2.2... 2) is that the latest updated version? the first link right? Swedish-Snow-RLS5.zip http://www.mediafire...quir9ur4nydul99 (mirror) MD5:EF580C03D45EE8B11A78D617DB83BB37 3) If i back up applications via Clockwork, how will i delete them? I will have 2 back ups of my apps and i only have about 1.6 gb left in my SD card out of the total 8 gb i had before...

I will have 2 back ups of my apps and i only have about 1.6 gb left in my SD card out of the total 8 gb i had before... 1. You don't extract it, just leave in zipped up on your sdacrd. Once you get to Clockwork, you use the vol+ and vol- buttons to move up and down the lists, the home button to select an option, and back to go back. Navigate to "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard". Then navigate to the Swedish Snow zip. Select it, then it will ask you to confirm. Navigate to yes and choose it. Once it finishes installing, click the back button until you get to the first screen again and choose "reboot system now". Your phone should then reboot and load up the new rom. 2. Yes that's the latest version. 3. If you look on your sdcard, there will be a folder called "clockworkmod". Inside that there is a folder called "backup" which has any backups you made from Clockwork recovery. Open the "backup" folder, and there should be one folder inside for each backup you have made.
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) it rooted fine but i cant see anything but black on the status bar... i installed launcher pro and its working fine Edited March 10, 2012 by OtherguyX
Guest Amphoras Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 it rooted fine but i cant see anything but black on the status bar... I think that's a known bug that occurs the first boot. If you reboot your phone is should fix it.
Guest OtherguyX Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks, im happy with my rooted phone, going a bit faster now that i gotten rid of some stuff. Nothing new though so a bit of an anti climax.
