Fish n chips

You have to install another keyboard on it because there's no dictionary for a reason I cannot fathom, but it's the fastest imo. no stupid undervolt kernel. Also you might want to pretty it up a bit with a different launcher+theme.

edit.. took out stable comment because all the main roms are very stable.

You also have Swedish Snow 4b which is quite stable for daily use.. SS4b is based on a stock ZTE Android 2.3.5.

But if you want very fast rom (maybe the fastest roms), choose Cyanogenmod7 (official or kangs). You can find them from the thread ;)

All custom rom developers will try to maximise both performance and battery life.

Personally, I don't see any major difference in terms of performance between the different roms. I did some benchmarks and they all perform similarly. What's different are the settings that determine the look and feel of the rom.

I use Burstlam's CM7 kang myself.

What Cowscrubber says. There's not really any significant difference between any rom based on the same Android version that's kept up to date. If some rom comes up with a great performance or battery life tweak - the rest will have it within a day!

So it comes down to personal preference over included themes and tweaks etc really
