Had the OSF a year now. Bought as Gen1 TFT Eclair/Orange branded - now Gen2 via TPT Gingerbread/Moldovan MileHigh rls9 unlocked on GiffGaff

All was fine until a few days ago when my 18-month old picked it up and threw it at a wall. Now I have 2 problems:

1/ Touchscreen - works fine but only when I put my thumb over the "cis" in "San Francisco" on the front panel and press hard.

2/ Random signal dropouts for minutes at a time

Now, the first one I tried to tackle by dismantling the phone, removing the ribbon cable to detach the front of the case, press on the connection to the touchscreen from the inside, reattach the ribbon cable & reassemble. Didn't work. I only noticed the second problem after attempting this repair. Does the OSF have an internal antenna I may have disconnected when dismantling? Has anyone had (and fixed) a similar screen problem.

Or is it, as I suspect, rubber-ducked?

Help much appreciated as I don't want to replace right now - I've been reading reports from MWC and want to save up for a ZTE Era when these hit our shores in 6 months or so.

Oh one more question while I'm here - a few ROM flashes ago, I had a ROM which changed my manufacturer/device ID to HTC Blade instead of ZTE so I could download Gameloft stuff from the market. Does anyone know how to do this? My searches only pulled results about porting HTC Sense.

Touchscreen-Connector is faulty.Buy another (ebay Shop mpas2010)

The cable is in the right side inside the phone.

The answer to your second question. Download root explorer app you might have to pay I can not remember. After installation go into system you should see a text file called build prop. At the top of the screen you get an option m/o or m/w press m/o then long press on build prop should bring up permission tick all three boxes then long press on build prop. Open with text editor. Change ZTE to HTC where appropriate then menu then save and exit. That should do the same as the rom you mentioned.

Nice one guys. So far so good,

We now have an HTC blade with a working touchscreen.

Reception remains poor though. Could it be a software thing? I've messed about with some settings which are probably over my head if truth be known.

It now appears if I have no 3G or H internet reception I have no phone signal at all. Could I have somehow disabled the ability to pick up basic GPRS?

Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > select "auto"

Ok thanks again guys. That setting I had changed and changed back.

Did a factory reset in the end - no improvement.

I made a nandroid backup first so I could restore if there was no improvement and there wasn't. So I've restored but things are not great reception wise still.

Now, looking on ebay, I saw this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZTE-BLADE-Orange-San-Francisco-Middle-Chassis-Antenna-Aerial-Mid-plate-Housing-/320785295816

which would perhaps suggest the antenna is in the midplate of the chassis. I actually damaged this slightly getting the phone apart to reach the touchscreen connector and now it is roughly cobbled together with 4 screws out of 8.

Could anyone confirm whether this middle section is necessary for good reception? I am happy to buy it anyway but will need to source replacement screws as I didn't keep the ones that wouldn't go back in. I am not sure how to go about obtaining these but will do whatever is necessary if anyone genuinely thinks it will help.

Cheers

Nick

giffgaff are having network issues at the moment for the last 4 or 5 days. it seems to be nationwide and can affect one person but not another whilst 2 people are sat beside each other. In true giffgaff style, feedback is slim.My 3g works but no hsdpa. 100-300kbps download speeds.

Contact an agent on giffgaff, but don't expect a reply, as I haven't had one in 2 days. Contact them anyway to ensure you are in the database for any fixes that are done.

Have had that problem today, I seen your post on konstas rls6 thread, which you thought might be a bug in the rom. Well today I was downloading a song which seem to take forever when all of a sudden I lost 2g and 3g. I put it down to the problems with giff gaff. Then just tried settings in network for search manual/ automatic for networks and it came back on. So I could see why you may of thought it was a bug. Everything is working fine now and it was most probably just good timing. I did have to reset my GSM/WCDMA setting as for some reson it was un sett.Does this sound similar to your problem?.Do you have any info from agents when this will be sorted out as my phone is definitely downloading a lot slower but browsing seems o.k.

P.S Sorry for posting this here.
