Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 I found this last night and haven't heard of it before. Is this possible on the blade, to code this into our kernel? rootzwiki.com/topic/19720-kernel-patch-devs-only-force-ac-fast-charging/
Guest sssingletrack Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Yeah, I could do with this if it is possible. My Duracell My grid makes the phone take forever to charge. The grid can push 1A but I'm guessing the phone is limiting it.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 The phone limits it to 500 ma if it thinks its a USB charging it. This does away with that limit apparently
Guest youngsta2010 Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 I noticed that the phone takes a lot longer to charge on USB, didn't realise it was restricted. This would be great if someone could get it working on the Blade.

It won't help you if you're actually charging via usb because usb IS 500ma*. it will only help you if charging via things that it thinks are usb that aren't. *usb 3 is probably more?
Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 yes it only limits it as that's the Max that it thinks it will be getting anyway as USB is limited to 500ma. I think its something to do with the wiring on how it identifies what is plugged in, whether USB or not.
Guest youngsta2010 Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 Ah I see, something else I didn't know ;) Even powered hubs?
Guest targetbsp Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 Ah I see, something else I didn't know ;) Even powered hubs? Yes. 500ma is the standard power for a usb 2 port. Incidentally, I looked it up since my guess in my earlier post that usb 3 will have more power and it was indeed increased to 900ma. The reason for a powered hub is to avoid less power - not to give you more. If it wasn't powered then each port of the hub would be sharing 500ma between them from the source port.

It's for a different chipset though, and playing with this is prone to cause all kinds of problems (e.g., the phone indicating it's charging, but it's not - if the power source isn't good - or it might even break low-quality USB hardware). No good to include this into an end-user firmware. BTW the charging topic is covered in the FAQ.
Guest Maxsas360 Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) For example my pc can output 1A on usb and powers front usb's when pc is off. It's with a Gigabyte mb. It is named Fast Charge and intended for iPhone's and other phones. My ASUS N53sm laptop too can output 1A. Forcing AC charge would solve the problem of incompatible chargers that charge on 0.5A Edited March 10, 2012 by Maxsas360

You can also prepare a MicroUSB<=>USB cable for (fast) charging (only): remove the insulation and cut and short data lines on the Blade side (leave USB side open). It will fast charge then - and draw 700mA from the USB port, possibly albeit unlikely damaging it if it doesn't support that. Takes three minutes time and little skill. You can also just mod the charger.
