Or do I need to change the ROM? Will that change what the phone thinks the IS number is?

Which provider is that? I updated manually when Virgin Mobile wasn't listed.

See my posting here... Ignore the sony mobile web page, and use the PC companion suite which will tell you if there's a firmware update. I was refreshing that page for so long to see if my SI number appears, but no, instead I fired up PC Companion Suite which told me that there was an ICS upgrade available. :)
