Guest Sharkface Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Hi. Been lurking for a while. I've read in the forums that it's nearly impossible to brick the Monte Carlo. Hope so! Symptoms: I was installing an app with almost no battery left - phone turned itself off. I naturally plugged in the charger and turned phoned on - now stuck on Orange logo... Details: - My phone is rooted, but still using stock Orange rom. - ClockworkMod is NOT installed. - I still hear "USB attached" sound when plugged in to my Windows 7 PC, but the usual options never appear on phone screen. I've seen similar threads and suggestions, but reluctant to try those without first asking the knowledgeable folks here! I've already downloaded reboot_recovery.bat assuming this will be needed. A step-by-step guide would be great. Many thanks.
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Firstly you haven't bricked your phone. Second I would highly recommend you install clockwork mod and install a custom rom. You won't regret it. The pinned thread should give you instructions on how to do the above.
Guest robneymcplum Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Firstly, I am in no way an 'expert' however I suffered similar and through trial and error I used a combination of these things, bear with me as I'm copy/pasting from other topics and although the wording may not make sense hopefully the answer will, if you get me? Assuming your phone is turned on.... http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=139077&t=4&i=1 this is the google driver http://minus.com/mbhLiMVZ38#1 This is the handset driver Download those ideally to desktop and unzip/unrar them also there, just so you know where they are. Now, I am assuming if your PC makes 'the noise' when you plug it in then it knows its there, plug the USB in, hear the noise, and go to device manager there should be a yellow triangle next to... I dont know... other device or android device or something similar. Right click and update or add driver. Select that you want to install it yourself and locate one of the unzipped folders on your desktop. if that fails try the other one. Again, I am quoting this vaguely from memory and didnt write this down.... Once all that is done, and you eject your phone and unplug it, plugging it back in should mean in device manager it is listed as android phone, with no yellow triangle. From there you can using the other topics install CW recovery through windows, and from there reflash the standard orange rom. I think. :( I'm sure this has been useless as even re-reading it myself it makes little sense, but Im sure I just pissed around with stuff and this was the jist of what I did.

Following on from this look at part 9b on the FAQ rooting for beginners pinned thread. This is called fast boot and enables you to flash partitions (e.g. recovery) without the need of getting into your phone...
Guest Sharkface Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 (edited) OK. Thanks all - your help is appreciated. I'm back in the phone, reinstalled all my apps and have installed ClockworkMod Recovery. My second question: What would everyone recommend as good, all-round "everyday" rom? I realize "newbie" questions are probably frustrating, but I've only had the phone for a month. Edited March 14, 2012 by Sharkface
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 Atomic or icearmour. Both have their own pros and cons but are the most stable. I would recommend trying them both an see which one suits you.
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I think something should be pinned with a "debricking" guide as it has been proven again and agin it is essentially impossible to brick a zte skate.
