Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Hi Guys, Just read, and saw this over at RedmondPie.... and from what I make of it, is it looks like we may not get that update after all. So after all this time, what do you think? Will we see Android 4 on our devices, or are we stuck with Ginger till the end...? :( http://cdn.redmondpie.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/CM9-Flow1.png I know there are custom builds floating around, and still being worked on... but could this be end of the road for the Blades?? :( Cheers, Lister
Guest bladebuddy Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 To be honest Ginger bread is a whole lot better then eclair that originally came on my phone. So as I would really appreciate a fully working ICS rom on my blade if it's not possible I am thankful for what I have now, and to the devs that made it possible. I could buy a new phone if I want ICS but this one suits my needs and anything else is a bonus?
Guest Amphoras Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. Just now there are obviously people who are trying to bring CM9 to the Blade. If they get it working well enough, then it will probably get merged into the official CM repository. Even if it doesn't get made official, it doesn't really make much different if people are still working on it. It would be the same people doing the same work either way.
Guest matt4321 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Even still, I remember when they said gingerbread wasn't possible but look how that turned out! We have some dedicated devs working on CM9 for the blade, there is still work to be done but I still think we have a fairly decent chance, there is a very large community for the blade!
Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Gingerbread is great so I would never class it as stuck with gingerbread as so much work has gone into it by some great devs. As for Ics, I don't think I would sell my phone just to get it. I would sell it for more ram and flash support though, and a bit bigger screen.
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Not true. The only devices cyanogen mod is confirmed as dropping support is devices wit 256 mb ram and even that may change.
Guest Sulthekk Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Well, chinese blades have only 256 Mb, so a lot of users can still worry about it.
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Well Chinese blade users can still use the rom. I'm talking about cyanogen mod support which will very likely happen due to the 512mb ram in majority of blades.
Guest Amphoras Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Well, chinese blades have only 256 Mb, so a lot of users can still worry about it. Not so much. The Blade CM9 (if there is one) will still install fine for them. It might just be a bit sluggish, but they'll still have the chance to use it.
Guest Lister Of Smeg Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Hi All that replied, Thanks for the vote of confidence... kinda re-assures that there may still be a chance?? And by the way, I didnt mean my initial post to sound negative to what we have now, and I am very grateful to all the talented Devs that have got us this far... :) Hell, Gingerbread is way better than the original stock rom that came with it. I am fairly (well, one year on now) to the Blade / Android scene, and only jumped on after I saw my brother with his Blade, and told me how cool it was. When I saw it, and how easy it was to re-flash, unlock, and mod... and so on!! I hadda to get one. In fact, our family has 3x of them!! :) I wasnt aware that Gingerbread (back in the day) may never of seen the light of day on our Blades, and to what we have now, is a fully fledge, smooth OS that makes the Blades perform amazingly... is only down to the credit of the Devs!!! :) I guess I was taken in by a mere picture, after seeing/hearing of all the work that has gone into CM9 for Blade so far, and then to see a diagram that seemed to say all those efforts were in vein... kinda took me with it, and was like "oh nooooooo" :( Still, as you say, one way or another... we may see it, either officially, or by port/dev mod.... and if they cant take it, well, I am sure we'll still see Gingerbread mods carrying on. Either that, or time has come to move to a more powered Android phone... Either way, I totally love Android, by far the better, and fairer platform, and so much fun, and learning can be had with this amazing device!! :) Cheers, Lister
Guest targetbsp Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Based on what we have already, I don't think we have much to worry about. Heck, the only think stopping me using Coldfusion as a daily rom is that the notification LED's don't work. Hardly a major issue I suspect!

Maybe that's the only thing stopping YOU but that doesn't mean everything else is fine. It only shows what you use the device for.
Guest Maxsas360 Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 We will have CM9. Other ARMv6 phones will get it. Why not us too?
Guest targetbsp Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) Maybe that's the only thing stopping YOU but that doesn't mean everything else is fine. It only shows what you use the device for. Umm... yeah... that's why I said the only thing stopping me. Rather than the only thing wrong with... :) The point being that the core functionality is solid. Phone calls, internets, apps. Edited March 16, 2012 by targetbsp

Yeah, but CM will evolve over time, and I'm pretty sure that if they declared 512 as the smallest amount of ram, they won't mind if some new features or changes in memory management may conflict with chinese blades.

It's open source, so....
Guest jackal-sk Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Someone got an answer to comment in the latest CM blog, that Blade will not be officially supported.
Guest De@n Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Someone got an answer to comment in the latest CM blog, that Blade will not be officially supported. Tourist: Ehm, since some questions are being answered, which I know are boring, is there a plan to support Blade officially for ZTE Blade ? Simple yes or no would be ok. Ciwrl: As of this moment, no.
Guest tilal6991 Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Not the same. They are focusing on high end devices first before moving on.
Guest skywave Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Can't speak for CM9 but this says something how the CM team thinks about our SoC. http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,13563 Now the new Adreno drivers are only ARMv7, i'm afraid the CM code will only become more incompatible with the V6.
